What was the orginal battery that came with the GN. I know it was an ac delco. Thanks

These are pictures and info Richard Clark posted a few months ago:

Standard battery was catalog # 730

Heavy duty upgrade (GNX's came standard) catalog # 601

Production batteries had a separate number tag (Pictured Above Battery Sticker) showing CCA and #.

Can someone post better close up clear pictures of the Cat # 730 battery two stickers. The one on top and bottom. Is it prety much accepted that that catalog # 730 was the standard battery in the 1987 GN's and Turbo - T's?

Look on eBay. Seller "janlarsson" had them awhile back. Very nice quality!

So, anyone have any stickers for the #730 battery then?

I got 730 stickers (still the two sticker set version as seen in the above picture) on their way .. been a number of people asking for them and in the end we managed to find a really good straight on photo of an original that could be reproduced. So this means both the 601 and the 730 version will be available end of this week. 601 is the high output version used as standard in the GNX (and the Turbo Trans Am) and optional in the GN ... 730 came standard in the GN as you know.

Anyway if interested PM me and I'll sort you out.

And I got the green eye done as a sticker as well .. I hope these will be a nice way to get the "eye" on there but have yet to see how they came out (and of the week) as we did some clever tricks to both the design and the print process to simulate the original eye ... again when I have them I will post some pictures ... not sure what the additional cost will be for these yet.

I wonder if anyone has managed to fab up a plastic topper for the battery. I've seen it done for the older cars. That way you can simply snap the topper on your current battery and it will "appear" to be original with the added convenience of being able move it to a new batter once your old battery bites the dust.

I've seen similar ideas within the Camaro/firebird community and I think a few of them asked around to see if someone would be interested in making them but I think the demand was very low along with the cost of investment for tooling etc.

And with the flat top batteries out there today there's less need for a battery topper I guess. Good news is you can get the decals for a flat top battery so they look closer to the originals; painting the bottom part of the battery white will do the trick making it look as close to the factory originals as can be done.

UA1 is the RPO code for the heavy duty battery. I'm guessing the standard battery does not get a special code?

I used Jan's decals to make a topper of sorts. See here.

Jan, I'll be interested in that green eye decal for sure. :blackalien:
