Correct. The OE lift supports were by OEM Gas Spring Co., Colmar, PA. They had the "GS" symbol, GM part # and date code printed in white.
Stabilus bought Gas Spring Co in 1980. Stabilus continued to operate the Colmar, PA facility as its North American headquarters until 1997 when the decision was made to relocate the Colmar, PA headquarters and all U.S. production to a facility expansion of the Gastonia, NC location.
HighwayStars (HS) has a couple versions of lift supports (or they did at one time). There is the current version of Stabilus lift support with the Stabilus wording and part #. HS also did a production run of the OE lift supports having the GS Gas Spring logo and GM part #. These were priced a bit more.
Note: any lift support you'd look up by y,m,m - be sure to select ones for an aluminum hood. If you install a new pair of lift supports for a steel hood, the resistance to close is great. Many folks make the comment of not wanting to "taco the hood" while trying to get the lift supports to close if using a new pair of lift supports for a steel hood.
Somewhere about 1993, my original GS logo'd supports were not holding up the hood well. A stronger wind could start lowering the hood. I called around to local parts stores. An ADAP location had a set of MIghtyLift units in stock. At the time, MightyLift also supplied ACDelco - the blue parts sticker on the cylinder was the same. At the store, the counter rep came back with the aluminum hood version. When I questioned that, he noted this is what I want and not to use the lift supports for a steel hood, even though the hood is steel and the y,m,m look up says to do so. Well, he was correct.
