Outer Window Sweep

Have a question hoping someone can help with. I’m working on an ‘85 Limited and changing the wide trim on the top of the door with the sweep built in over to the GN style without the trim piece. Got new sweeps from Mike’s Monte’s and they are made by Precision. They seem a bit odd to me though. They have two channels that sit against the door where it seems there should only be one. Either way, I’m looking for someone to tell me if they sit on top of the door edge or against it. Seems they should sit on top, but the holes don’t line up vertically. I’ve posted a couple of pics to describe what I mean, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

When I did mine the holes didn't line up. I took the window out to avoid damaging it and I think I drilled some more holes. Cant remember if i drilled em in the door or in the weatherstrip. It is an 80s Gbody and came down the line with the rest. The person wasn't measuring and just shooting screws in.

I would line it up the best you can. Has to be better than no rubber keeping the moisture out.

Thanks, was thinking I’d have to slot out the holes or something, but does the seal sit on top of the door edge, or against it?

Thanks guys! I’ll slot out the holes and put them on top. Figured that’s how they went, just seemed odd that they have the two flaps instead of one. Thanks for the replies.

Please don’t remove the window! There are stops in the door if you take them down the window will go down lower and you will be able to fit a drill in there to put new screws in. Before I knew this I use to remove the guides and use a shaved off Phillips bit to get the screws out. With the window stops out you will get the clearance that you need.

Thanks Tricksixpa, but I took all the glass out when I painted the car. I did happen to try that trick before I took all the glass out and even with the stop removed the window wouldn’t go quite low enough for all the screws. From what I’ve heard some cars that works done it doesn’t. Thankfully these windows are pretty darn easy to take out and put in. Got those sweeps in and glass back in and looks good! Much better than those wide trim pieces.

They’re mint, but... I powder coated them black cause I was gonna put them back on. I have various trim pcs I’m not going to use.

I got dew sweeps from highway stars, the fit was perfect & I had to drop the window to get the old screws out & new ones in. I took my time (lots of it) but the fit was right as rain
