While tuning my T, I get knock at 20# but only when the tranny shifts into OD. I've searched here and I'm not sure if the trans shifting into OD during a WOT blast is recommended or not. I read that OD at WOT puts a lot of load on the motor which can cause detonation, and yet I see some use drive while others stay in OD during a run. I'm a little confused about this. Should I just adjust the boost for drive or should I be looking for 0 knock in overdrive?

I leave it in third when I lock the TC at the track, but I do run mine in OD at wot. Mostly don't do it bc the 4th gear planet may let go on you. Depends on the tune and the power level. My car pulls hard in OD with TC unlocked but I wouldn't try locking my TC in OD until I upgrade the planet. I will try it one day though. :D It feels GREAT in third when I lock it up.

I should add that I don't have Alky right now. I have an Edge 'street edge' lockup converter with 2800 stall and a EA stage II trans if that matters any. My issue is that I have no issues running 20# all the way through 3rd gear. After I felt the trans shift, the knock came on immediately. I have since backed the boost down to ~17#, but I was wondering if I should be running WOT in overdrive in the first place when adjusting boost.

0 knock for any gear od or not.i have never hurt 4th gear on a 200 regardless of power.

How much rwhp or ET and car weight are we talking here? I've personally seen two blow 4th gear planet at just over 500rwhp. I've also seen them last close to 700rwhp. It depends a lot on the car, but there are plenty of known examples out there of poor quality 4th gear planets. YOU may be fine, but it's hit or miss from one tranny to the other. Plus, if you have a loose TC, then it hurts less. Try locking the TC at wot in 4th on a high powered car. You may still get lucky.

9 sec et's at 3500 lbs,low 10's at 3750lbs,high 10's/low 11's at 3850.separate cars,running both nonlock and lockup converters.
