Where do you guys mount it? Apparently dads gn has a bigger than stock battery and it just wont fit between the battery and the core support. Can it be lower than the radiator? Pics would be great.

Thanks Jason

I hope this doesn't turn into anything like the Ipod thread:eek:

I have my overflow zip tied to the electric fan shroud, inlet is below the radiator outlet, but the bottle is angled so the inlet is lower than the cap.

I think as long at the outlet/inlet of the overflow is at the lowest part of the bottle, it doesn't matter if the overflow is higher or lower than the radiator cap itself.

I think the use of catch can would be better to understand its function. Anywhere you like.

Ok thanks guys. So the coolant never goes from the overflow to the radiator like stock?

Jason

Ok.. you have a 160 thermostat. Water boils at 212. Water should be at 160-170 if your cooling system is functioning correctly.. so if coolant is at 160-170.. technically.. you dont need an overflow. Since its not boiling.. its not/shouldnt be coming out. Unless the cap is bad.

Mount it drivers side under the K&N.. run a longer hose. Single fan guys can mount it to the shroud...

In front of the battery horizontally it has fit every one of 70+ Buicks I have installed the kit on. Did one this Teusday.

Good Luck..

I'll get it, it's just this car has to many gadgets. One example being a motion sensor...I guess I will force fit the overflow inbetween the battery but will have to make some brackets. Not the end of the world.

I usually just stuff mine in there no brackets. Easy. The wire loom there holds it in place. No liquid is in it so no weight..

Toss it and use nothing. That's what I did. No need for a overflow on these cars like Julio said unless your not properly cooling.

Jim, you used a little one that you mounted on the fan shroud....And this car cools just fine. I havent seen it above 170 but that's because the extender chip has it set like that. I have a turbotweak chip that will go in if I ever get this alky installed.

Thanks guys, Jason

So if there is any fluid in the overflow, there is a cooling problem? Just finished installing my kit and after a short test(works perfectly) there is 1/2 inch of fluid in the overflow can. Car runs 175-180 all day with front mount. Does that mean the cap is bad?

To stay on topic, I mounted my overflow on the drivers side core support just above my cone filter. The kit has plenty of hose to get there.

Partial Hijack, Sorry

I ended up hiding mine where most people put it but lower. The naked eye cant see it, I'm under the belief that the system is under pressure. Your radiator cap keeps pressuse so any fluid can be sucked either way depending on the temp. If it runs 175 leave it alone.

I'd replace the cap.. its probably the OEM one from 1986. And clean where the rubber sits inside the neck area.

Under hi-reving you may pressurize the radiator and a little comes out.. I wouldnt worry about it unless you have a lot coming out.

And with a 160 thermostat, you should be running 160 not 180. 180 means the thermostat is always open and free flowing. Now if you have a 180 stat.. and it runs 170-180.. thats fine.

I think replacing the cap is cheap insurance, and yes it looks 80's vintage. If high revving could cause a problem, I need to make a change because since I installed your kit, I can't keep my foot out of it. Why didn't I buy this thing years ago?
