Paint Job question

Two questions actually.... Wouuld 2K be practical for a show quality paint job... or should i expect to pay more. Second, if i had GNX louvers and GNX flares put on my 87 GN...would that make it seem as if i am trying to pass it as a GNX..cuz i'm not i just like the way it makes it look meaner and more serious!! By the way...does anyone know of a good paintshop in NC? Thanks guys.

I'm located in Cary but go to Elon University and have friends in Charlotte...so basically i got connections all over NC so anywhere in NC is just dandy

In most cases, you'll pay quite a bit more than $2000 for 'show quality'. Much of it depends on the prep work required. Dings, dents, rust, checked laquer will all drive up the labor involved. I worked out a great deal with a local painter and got a top notch job for not a whole lot more than that but I was lucky.

I went with the exterior 'X' treatment with the same intent. To make it look meaner. I never intended to put one over on anyone especially since it's a T-top car but it's been interesting. Regular folks don't even notice the extras. All GNs could have looked like that as far as they are concerned.

Buick enthusiasts, on the other hand, become fixated on the flares, vents & emblems and, without thinking, ask, "what # is it?" or "is that a real GNX?"

Heck, I just tell them that it's #548 of 547 built. Then it hits them.

when i bought my Regal (not a GN :'( ) the owner told me that he had a 2k paint job done about 3 years ago. Looks really good, but not show quality. Also, the car is burgundy, so getting a better paint job in black probably costs more. Also, for some reason ( I guess they knew the chrome skirts were going back over it, or the price didn't justify it) the bottom of my doors has drips and crappy paint underneath ( I would have told them to re-do it!).

Expect to pay around 3-4k for a show quality paint job, like stated earlier most of that is the labor envolved. You can save money by doint alot of the prep work yourself, like taking all the moldings off, glass out, etc.....
You get what you pay for with paint!!!!!

I'm droppin' $4300 for the two-tone on my WH1 T-Type, that includes 2 rust free doors and fixing a decent size dent in the trunk lid from a tree branch. I was given quotes anywhere from $4000 to $12,000 (GM dealer). Just remember, you save $$ doing any prep work yourself and you get what you pay for. See some of the shop's work on someone else's car first because I could say I would paint it for $500 and it will come out worse than it went in! Good luck!!!!
