Someone awhile back (before the new site here) asked what was better to paint a GN with, base-clear or single stage. I replied single stage with single stage clear was very difficult to get smooth but durable over the years. Well, I finished up the car this week after a three month delay due to other prodjects (427 Cobra) and the GN paint is completed. Here is the pic of the car.

im not understanding what you mean by single stage with a single stage clear?single stage is what it is,a single stage correct?its a cheap way to put paint on your car and hope it looks good and everytime you buff it a little more of your paint dissapears on to your buffing pad..is that a single stage?its a very poor pic so its hard to really see down the side of it.my car has been painted with a base clear, then we dry sanded the orange peel out with 1000 then hit it with 2500 then wet sanded it with 3000 then buffed it very slowly then buffed it again with a swirl remover with a polish in it then finished it with the maguiars gold...now this car is like a mirror down the side i cant believe how this looks..

Yes the pic came out fuzzy??? I will get another.

The single stage color is shinny right out of the gun and most will leave it alone with out clear. I add the clear, as my 4th and 5th coat of paint while the black is still wet. It is just like the clear you use on a flat base paint color. I did not wet sand or buff out the paint and I have tremendous depth. The paint process has to be perfect for this to work and the mixture is a little thinner to flow the paint immediately. My paint materials alone were $560.00 so a screw-up hurts the wallet!!! I like base-clear but I think with single stage poly I definitely get a darker and deeper black and no wet sanding. It seems to resist chips better also. Base-clear is always easier but I guess I like to be different.
