Hello all,

I bought a used ATR swaybar and it is somewhat rusty. I want to re-do it. Has anyone done this before and can advise me whether to prime, flat/gloss paint etc??

Thanks alot,

Ravi

Hi Ravi..............just sand off the surface rust and paint it with anything you like. I'd just use spray cans. Put on a bunch of coats and let it cure overnite. You'll probably have to repaint it from time to time because of it's location, so pick a procedure easy to repeat. ;)

Powdercoating is teh ultimate way to go, but if you would rather paint get something with an epoxy base, like eastwood chassis black. The tougher the paint the longer ir will last.

I agree that powder coat would be most dureable, but a close second would be POR15, optionally topcoated with POR "Chassis Black". http://www.por15.com/

Properly applied & cured, POR15 is very durable and chip resistant.

I painted my truck's slightly rusty receiver hitch with POR15 a couple years ago, it still looks great. And, I can tap it with a ball peen hammer and the POR15 paint won't even chip!
