Hello AVC GNX dash people, does anyone have the part number of the VDO speedometer in that cluster? My speedometer consistently reads +2/+3 MPH over the actual speed and I would like to see if there is a way to adjust the offset. My VSS reads correctly so I don't think it is the speedometer cable.
Thanks!

goodluck finding that , youll might need an oscillation overthruster
3-1/8 160mph mechanical vdo cockpit speedometer

speed error same regardless of speed means an adapter wont work nor will gear change in trans
you will need to open it and try to remove and move the needle but youll need a steady reference spinning it to do that
a speedometer repair shop would be the best bet

Thanks. I called VDO technical support and am still waiting for them. I can deal with it if I have to, but its been annoying me for the last 20 years....
I'm in the New York City area so not many speedometer repair shops :-)

You're not the only member that had that same issue with the VDO GNX style
odometer , even other brands GNX style odometer are experiencing the same issue. If you have dealt with the 2 to 3 mph discrepancy for 20 years, hell you got it whip ( live with it ). Beside know one does the speed limit in the big apple ...

I was just doing other work and figured to correct it now.... That speedo is difficult to read anyway so I don't pay much attention to it. I just thought there might be a screw or some idiot adjustment inside of it. It's not worth it to bother taking out and starting to randomly drill it open unless I know it can easily be one. I'm a bit disappointed in the support from VDO though. Seems like they were bought by a larger company a while back.... They don't return calls.

I would think a different gear in your transmission may correct this .
I had my VDO speedo & trip meter recalibrated to KMH with a new face by North Hollywood Speedo & Clock in LA
At the same time had them add an additional hole / opening for an extra light bulb . This has helped to improve the illumination of the Speedo at night

Update ; had to send my speedo back to North Hollywood Speedo & Clock to recalibrate the odometer . Seems in the process of recalibrating the speedometer head to KMH’s they neglected to also change the odometer to show kilometres. It was inadvertently left to read miles travelled instead of kilometers
They addressed this and corrected the issue so now both the speedometer & trip meter reflect kilometers.
My point is that North Hollywood Speedo & Clock in LA can do repair / rebuild work to VDO gauges .
I would highly recommend them & would use them again with hesitation

I need somebody that can rotate the face of the speedometer 1° :) My VSS is correct so I assume the gearing on the cable is correct. I'de rather have the speedometer inaccurate that the VSS.
That light on the VDO speedometer is terrible though. All the other lights on that cluster are bright but that one is completely different. Good that it can be improved.

Contact North Hollywood Speedo & Clock as mentioned above .
