June 3, 2005 - Purchase a converter from Pat's for $260 + $28.70 shipping. It is a 12' stalled to a tight 2800.

July 12, 2005 - Call Pat's and speak with Steve Barr. I ask if they will accept a return on the converter. Steve's response is that their standard policy is to replace or repair, however in this case he'll take the converter back. Steve then agrees to a refund of the full $260, but shipping at my expense. I asked him if he could do a UPS call request (7 to 10 days is the usual pick up window), to which he agrees and explains that he will deduct the shipping expenses from the $260. So my refund would be $260 - shipping (~30).

July 26, 2005 - Converter has not been picked up as of yet from UPS. I call Pat's and they said they put a call in for a pick-up. They said they will put in another request.

August 04, 2005 - Still no pickup. Called Pat's, they would look into it again. and request a pick up.

August 11, 2005 - Still no pickup from UPS. I let them know that I will ship it out myself to them.

August 12, 2005 - Ship the converter back to Pat's.

August 22, 2005 - Converter received by Pat's

August 25, 2005 - Call to confirm that the converter has been received by Pat's since no refund has appeared on my credit card. The receptionist told me Steve would take care of the refund on Monday, August 29, 2005.

September 07, 2005 - No refund has appeared on my credit card. I call Pat's and speak with the receptionist.

She says that Steve has agreed to a refund of $130 for the converter. I ask to speak to Steve to question why I am not being refunded the full $260 as agreed previously (remember, I paid for the shipping since no pickup occured). His explanation is that he has work into the converter and he can not refund me the full $260.

I remind him that that is not what we originally agreed to when we spoke previously. More hemming and hawing by Steve, to which I replied are you going to refund me the full $260, or are you going to renig on your offer and go back on your word.

All of a sudden Steve has memory loss and cannot remember what we spoke about almost two months ago  (based on the conversation, I highly doubt that). Anyways, once again, are you going to refund the $260 as agreed upon or not. To which Steve replies that he will refund me $200 for the converter because he needs to get some money out of the work he performed.

I agree to the $200 because I can see this is the most he will refund me, plus I'm sure that he would charge me to ship the converter back (lose-lose situation).

September 14, 2005 - $200 refund appears on card.

Anyway, that's one person's story.

Chris

A month later? Was it due to you just not wanting it or what? Seems he bent over backwards for you if nothing was wrong with it. I wouldn't be Wal-Mart and return something like that if nothing was wrong.

The point is he made an agreement with me on the dates speficied for the amounts specified.

Steve doesn't post here so I am sure their are two sides to every story. If it were my company you would get zero if nothing was wrong. Why didn't you just sell it to someone instead of expecting the man to take a loss on something that you either didn't want in the first place or ordered the wrong one?

Again, I did not force Steve to agree to a full refund when we first spoke. He did that on his own, it was his choice. Therefore, all of your questions/arguements are invalid.

The fact is he agreed to refund me the $260, and when it came time to do so, he renigged on his offer.

And you renigged when you bought it then wanted to return it a full month later. Regardless, we only have your details and not his. Of the litterly thousands of transactions he has made this is the first UNCONFIRMED dispute and I am sure their is more to the story than is being told.

I'm glad you're sticking up for your friend.

But the facts stand as written above. He agreed to a refund and did not follow up on it.

He did not have to allow me to return the converter and refund me the $260, but he did. End of story.

did you guys just cut and past that whole convo from the other boards product reveiw section? lol

Chris's converter was defective and was verified. You are right Intercooler, there was more to the story, but Chris chose not to tell them here because the point is he was promised one thing and then later it was denied any such promise was made.

Further more, we suggested he return the converter to Pat for repair, we did not try to sell him a converter.

Tell it then. Don't be afraid. I am not Steve's right hand man. If you got a bad one and it was HIS fault then I understand fully and would be the first one to give him a call asking him what kind of POS did he sell you. I don't even own a Buick now so I go both ways easily. I just know that this would be the FIRST known problem with one on all the boards if it is true. Details???

come on

umm 2quiktocare - were you there and did you hear the conversations?? while you may not have "tried to sell him a converter" it seems to me that you have jumped in to this thread to side against the vendor under the pretext of telling "more to the story". However, unless you were part of the initial discussions and agreements you are only speculating in a way that could be seen as vendor bashing vendor. I feel this is highly unprofessional.
