Yesterday I tried to use my Paypal account to make a purchase and I was going to pay as a gift, but Paypal tried charging me and has never charged me in the past for gift transactions? Has anyone had this issue come up recently?

The only way to not get charged is to send as money to friends/family with either a paypal balance or bank account.

Yeah that is what I tried to do and Paypal still tried to charge me. I have paid other board members in the same manner and never had this issue come up. I think as long as I had money in my Paypal it might not of charge a fee, but I have a bank card linked up and never have had this issue happen. It even said that I will not get charged a fee then I clicked to send funds and that's when PayPal tried charging me. Not sure about other people but I never like to have a big balance in my Paypal account.

Wish someone would come up with a better alternative then using Paypal. I really dislike the greediness of eBay and their brother company PayPal.

They are offering a service, which costs $. With hackers the security costs $. You can always use money orders.

My point is that they never charged before to send money in that manner. Like any consumer I always like to pay the least and banks are always trying to make money with someone else's money. I guess I'm one of the few that does not like to pay fees or interest to any online or to tradition banking institutions.

So I sent a check not a money order ;)

I sent money a week ago for a power steering reservoir and was not charged. The option I used stated there was no fee for sending money as a gift. Does it still say no fee?

Yes. It will say no fee if you send as a gift but when you click to send funds next page will say to accept the fee and send funds. I believe the fee is to pull money from your account and you only get charged for the difference on the amount they had to pull from a credit card, debit card, or bank account.

I'll be on the look out for the fee next time. I think it said no fee if you have money in pay pal or it takes it from your bank account.

You are correct. Credit card companies are charging 3% or more per transaction. I got a quote from a vendor on a very high dollar item and it said at the bottom of quote..."direct 3% discount if not paid by credit card."

I sent money on Tuesday as a gift and my Paypal account is tied to my Main Checking account. I sent 250, the recipient received 250 and I did NOT get charged any fees.

I think youre only allowed to send a certain $$$ amount a year and then they start charging you. Maybe youve reached that limit.

I just did one last week and it said there was a charged for direct credit card payments. Bank accounts ans PayPal balance should still be free. It was a new look when I sent the money due to a site update.

If that's true...and I haven't hit it with my build...it's pretty damn high. Hahaha

My bank account isn't but then I tried my brothers account and Paypal tried charging him as well. I even tried adding my bank account to my Paypal and would not let me.

Nostalgia time! Anyone remember when Paypal's slogan was "Always Free"?

I also remember they gave people I think was a $1 or $5 to open a Paypal account. Remember that?

Also, they were giving out $20 if you got other people to sign up! Good old days.

And on the subject of the thread, just sent someone money for something and chose the send money to family and friends and there was no charge if you used your Paypal balance or from your bank account. Yes, there is a fee if you use debit or credit card.
