Anybody know where I can find a performance shop in SD that is competent, not overpriced and easy to work with? I'd like to have the car tuned properly.
I've done what I can, and that's limited, so I need expert advice.

TIA

I hate to tell you this but you're out of luck. You'll need to go to see either Lou Czarnotta in lake Forest or Tim Lee at Don Lee auto in Rancho Cucamonga.

Thanks John. :)

I'm not really looking for any more projects right now since I'll be moving in a little over two weeks.I will be without a garage to work out of for at least 2 months because it's not built yet. I can help out with advice if that's all you need.

You also have Sod at Hye Tech Performance in La Puente.

I've gotten some work done at Don Lee, Tim is a great guy, and does quality work.

What about May or June of Next year?

Well, here's the deal. I have an 86 GN and it's running. I have gone through, using the boards like this and gnttype.org as resources to do as much of my own work as possible. Unfortunately I do not have a scan master but have used an OTC 4000 to check all of the settings. Everything checks out fine.

However, the car has no pickup on takeoff and stumbles and pops like crazy when I attampt to give her some gas. I'm tired of fighting with the car and just want it to run properly.

I figured that I'd take the car to Lou Czarnota since he's supposed to be a buick expert. Well, he might be a buick expert but he was such a jackass that I would never do business with him again or refer any fellow enthusiast to him. If he's married, my prayers go out to his wife becuase she must be a saint!

So, after that fiasco, I know that I had a bad MAF and I swapped it with and LS1 MAF and Trans+. The car is exhibiting the symptoms listed above. (after the swap)

I run AC delco plugs
new wires
heated O2 (- which I was told to get rid of and go back to stock)
62mm TB and matched plenum
RJC powerplate
Dutt neck IC
Walbro 340 w/ hotwire
MSD 50lb injectors
Turbotweak chip
KB Ram Air
ADJ FPR/ rail gauge (43lbs vacuum off)
91octane
TPS (.44) (reset by Czarnotta) -I haven't yet checked what he set it to but he said not to touch it.

Everything seems to be working properly so that is why I'm at a loss....

If anyone can advise me or point me in the proper direction it would be most appreciated.

TIA

Gordy,

Things should have settled down by then. Are you going to be back in town?

Neal

Only for a few weeks, but I have some stuff that I want done that I just won't have the time, tools, or space to do. I'll probably be living in South Korea until July '08.

Gordy,

Give me a call the # will still be the same. I'll only be about a mile from where I'm located now.

Have you checked your coilpack and module?

This is a "specialty shop"...?

Morgan:
The BGNRA may not be a "Speciality Shop" in your eyes, but I think that it is in a lot of others eyes, with their involvement in Buick racing, especially the GN's, T-types, Turbo-t's, & TTA's. If you have or know of a more appropriate name for that sheet, I am interested in hearing about it. I only put it together so that new so cal Buick people coming into the field have more than 1 name to select from when needing a mechanic or shop, or even an affiliated club, for that matter. I posted it twice due to the first one running a couple of names together, due to my computer illiteratecy.

Neal: I have not checked the coil pack and module. How can I do so? Also, when I went to see Lou C., he made no mention of it being suspect.

He told me to lose the heated O2 and replace the MAF. I swapped the stock MAF for the LS1 and Trans+ setup. I have not yet had the opportunity to run the additional spark control wires that come with the Trans+ and Lou said that I could run fine without them...

The car starts up fine, idles smoothly and cruises quite nicely. It just wants to surge and pop when I get "aggressive"...

Anyway, if I need to look at the coilpak, tell me what I need to do and I'll do it.

Thanks for the help...

Oh yeah and a big thank you to WELLS for the comprehensive list.

Thanks again

One of the best ways to check the coilpack is to ohm it out. The coil pack actually consists of 3 seperate coils all molded together. If you measure the resistance between the front and back terminals on each coil they should be in the range of 11-14K ohms. If a coil is bad the resistance will be high. FWIW, heated O2 sensors work just fine. I've been running mine for years along with just about everyone else I know.

I agree with Neal on the heated O2. Neal, I'm still running the same one that I left San Diego with
And it's still performing perfectly, and you know how much race gas I've run throught this thing!
How long's it been now, three years or so?
