I have the front bumper and grille off my car to install new body bushings and a GNS radiator box kit. I found out that my grille was being held on by one screw at the top (other 3 screw mounting tabs were broke) and 2 zip ties. I want to reinstall it the correct way with the springs, only thing is I don't know how they mount. If someone has a pic or can describe to me how the grille is bolted to the car and where the springs go it would be greatly appreciated!

If you have one screw holding it, you should be able to see that you are missing those little metal tabs that accept a screw. I don't know how zip ties could be used, unless you DO have the metal tabs and you are just missing the screws. If so, just slip the tabs out and purchase screws that fit. I believe there are three screws total. As for the springs, they just hold the bottom of the grill to the bumper. I have Cotton's front mount. It fits so tight against the grill that I don't even need the springs, as the grill won't push in:biggrin:.

The ledge at the top may be busted out on your header panel reason only one 10 mm screw was securing the grille at the top. If not the case you need like a cage nut to slip on the lip so it can hold the 10mm screw....takes I believe a total of 3.

As for the bottom of the grille I assume your grille is 100% intact by that I mean it has the base plastic piece held by I think small rivets to the main grille. In other words about 5-6 inches extends back. If it does at teh very back is a notched area that is the point on the grille that the grille spring slips into. The other end of the grille spring locks into a round hole at the top of your bumper reinforcement brace. Lines up with the notched part of your grille and holds it forward.

Again it will only work if your grille is not missing the base portion.....

Dennis, the ledge at the top where the grille attaches to is not in the greatest of shape. The cage nuts barely have anything to clip onto. Not sure what I can do to remedy this, any suggestions?

As for the grille itself, it is 100% intact with the base plastic piece that is riveted on. I see now where the springs attach to on the grille. I will have to look at the bumper again when I put it back on. I have the bumpers off as I just finished installing your full body bushing kit. :D

To answer your questions.....

That lip area at the top does not have much area to grab if some of it is busted out. Perhaps and nut with a wider flat washer may work better. Fortunately not much weight is got to be held simply used to position grille. You need to make something work in order for grille to it evenily in the opening.

As to the base with the springs the hole to secure it on the reinforcement bracket will be on the top of the reinforcement bracket.

Good move doing the body bushings...major job for sure but well worth it. Assuming you also did all the braces as well....you got a desireable car with the astroroof.

Dennis, I have the grille in now, and it seems pretty secure. I have new spring to install, so I think I'm good.

Finished the body bushings bushing last night with new bolts I bought from you. I installed the reinforcement bars for the front frame horns, just waiting in the back seat brace thats on back order. In the meantime, I have a Walbro pump, Delco fuel filter, hot wire kit, and new tank wiring to install. can't wait to drive it next month....
