Pipe, Signal Oil

What exactly does this do? That is what is the purpose of the Pipe - signal oil?

I have my tranny out and about to do a valve body switch and noticed this pipe was actually not fully inserted on one side of the valve body.

Now I am curious to know if this might create any problems with the tranny's shift points or firmness of shifts?

I have CK manual but haven't found the real purpose of this pipe. Any information would be great.

The pipe sends line pressure in lo 1 and 2 to the int .rev boost valve to raise boost pressure in these ranges.The pipe not in can cause pressure loss

So is it safe to assume this would lead to a soft shift?

Possible damage, burned clutch plates? If I inspect the fluid and smell nothing strange or see no unusual debris should I be ok?
