It really depends what you want to do with it. Put it on a wall? Does it have to be slim? Plasma is better than LCD. It also burns alot more energy too.

If size is not an issue, listen to Strikeeagle and bishir. You won't find better than the SXRD. The colors are a little exaggerated and real fast scenes supposedly fail the flag waving test but just 1-Go to sears and then 2-Buy it.
I know that you want it quick but probably in 09/06 Sony will be making the SXRD with 1080P instead of 1080i, just in time for Playstation 3.

There is no perfect tv out right now. Type plasma vs lcd in google. There is a lot of info. I am hoping to get the SXRD when the 1080P tv comes out.

From what I understood my SXRD is 1080P but has to upconvert it to 1080p. Are they coming out with a true 1080P? Regardless, besides the playstation 3 not much else will use it. xbox 360 already rocks on it and it's 720p.

Also consider an extended warranty plan. Usually a couple hundred bucks more, but it will cover lamp replacement which will cost just about that.

We have the top of the line 61 Inch Panny.
We decided on the LCD Projection because it had the best bangfor the buck in the size we wanted.
It you are a gamer the Plasma in not for you.
Some people also have problems with seeing a rainbow type effect around
things in the picture.

How do you guys like the Comcast HD?
I am thinking about getting it later this year.

Also keep in mind that most warrenties only cover the first bulb replacement. I choose NOT to get the warrenty because it was going to be over twice the cost of a single bulb, and I figured the one year manufacture would be enough. I hope I don't eat those words, but I've nothing but trouble free performance from Sony products. (knock on wood) A good question to ask if you go the LCD or DLP, or SXRD route is what the cost of a good replacement bulb will run you.

you just can't beat the look of a glass tube TV. and they last a very long time and have a great picture on them. you simply can't beat a glass high def TV. hell a standard resolution TV (128 lines) has a better picture than any of the LCD'S or PLASMA'S.

and the cost of a glass tube TV will outlast and be cheaper than any other TV.

this is just my 2 CENTS

I bought a 50" and a 60" Sony SXRD with the stand (for the 60") from an online vendor and haven't had a problem. The 50" was $2550 shipped and the 60" was $3780 shipped with the matching tv stand. You guys can PM me for the info on the guy I bought them from if you're interested in saving some serious coin. The 60" at best buy was $4400 alone and the stand was $450, plus tax you're looking at almost 6K.

Wow, my 50" cost me 3200 2 months ago! THats a great deal.

Sony who??

I will take the Pepsi challenge with my T.V against any Sony. I have a Hitachi (ultravision) LCD VS810 50" I believe a superior picture quality. For all those non-believers just go to your local Circuit City any check it out. ;)

I personally like the plasma's

I got a 42" panasonic viera hd, I would go plasma, either the panasonic viera, or the pioneer elite. Those are very good tv's, or go with a LG plasma, but lg also makes a nice lcd, the Sona Vega is also very nice. These were my choices before I bought my tv, I work in the cable industry, i've seen every tv you can imagine in high definition. I picked my panasonic viera because it was the best i've seen, unless you spend another 3 or 4k. Plus watch what you buy, circuit city etc. will try to sell you features you dont need like cable card abilities, they suck, pc link to connect your computer is an extra 5 hundred, etc. good luck.

There are too many choices on TV now. The best thing to do is go to a best buy and see it for yourself. I heard the samsung and the lg's LCD are pretty good too.

I would stay away from Plasmas old technology now DLP is the future.

I have a 58" Pioneer Elite rear projection and love it. Have another 51" Elite for over 10+ trouble free. Too bad they don't make them anymore.

i too will have to give the nod to the hitachi. i looked at them all and pound for pound i will have to say that there is not another one out there that can produce a better picture than my 50" hitachi. LCD ULTRAVISION all the way

You guys must be blind! The SXRD is the only TV with 2 million megapixels. Hand down the best on the market is the SXRD. Go to CC, BB, or any av store and find out for yourself. Gee I wonder why BB has the 60" SXRD on the main display....

Yup, I walked into the store ready to buy an LCD or DLP. WHen I walked in I was immediately astonished to see the difference between the SXRD and the others. It was even blowing the plasma out of the water. I was going to buy a 61" DLP, but went down to a 50" SXRD. The picture quality was worth that much to me.
Plus, I've yet to see an LCD without the screendoor effect.

Dlp?

you have all gone mad. The only DLP worth while is the Sony. I always see people with these big ole 61" or 62" dlp's even my mother in law, and they sit 10' away  not to mention they are heavy, and super bulky. You need a stand for them, or they are so big they stand alone  the lamps go out if you accidently leave them on for a few nights in a row, lcd is a wanna be plasma, look at your computer screen, it is plasma! how does it look? I bet you all look at pictures of your gn's or porn, and see all the beautiful colors. Plasma all the way!!!!! :D

oh yeah

look at consumer reports, you'll see the panasonic viera plasma on the top, besides that, the best picture i've ever ever seen, came from a panasonic [tau] high definition flat screen, non plasma, I believe they are picture tube.

Elky, you may be talking about the new crt technology. I haven't seen those yet. Have you seen a SRXD Sony. Oh by the way DLP dosen't compare. I too was considering the 61" Toshiba DLP (which was $2800) but opted for the better TV.

The Panasonic Onyx series and Pioneer Elite are probably the best plasmas out there right now, but lots of $$. Space is a consideration for me and I need it to hang on the wall so DLP and projection is out of the question.

My brother has a 60" Pioneer Elite and I haven't seen any LCD or other brand TV (plasma or otherwise) as good as his.

So bottom line LCD or plasma...plasma all the way for me if picture quality is your priority.
