I'm not sure what's going on here. A few days ago, I noticed the car stumbling under acceleration but fine at idle. I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the K&N and the problem got better but still not gone. I recently added a TPS enhancer and I thought maybe that screwed things up, so I unplugged that. Nothing changed, but TPS volts are still where they should be. Could it be plugs/wires or is my coil pack going bad?

I don't have a scan tool of my own yet, so I can't do much diagnosing on my own right now. I bought the car from my dad (original owner) 2 years ago and he said the plugs/wires/coil pack were replaced at 45K miles and it has 78K on it now. If anyone has any ideas I would sure love to hear them!

POSTAL: please read this and let me know if I can come by and plug the Scanmaster in for a minute!

Probably coil pak or ignition module, that seems to be most commom solution for missing probems.

how easy and cheap is it to replace an ignition module? I don't think I even know where it is  Will a Scanmaster flat out tell me that one of these is bad, or do I have to decode some jibberish?

The ignition module is under the coil pak. You can sometimes ohm out the coil pak to check it. Don't remember the exact readings, go to gnttype site for info. Scanmaster won't tell you bad coil pak or ignition module, unless it throws some sort of code.

I believe I have been having this same problem as well. Oh well, another thing to add to the list for parts to buy.

CAM69SS: you have my attention...what is the "tap" test at idle for the MAF? Please let me know!!!!

missing spitting

Tom Tom,
I just fixed my missing spitting problem. I had replaced the plugs, wires, Cam sensor and drive unit, FP, hot wired the FP, F Filter. When I replaced both the coil pak and ignition module all the crummy symptoms went away. The engine pulls fine under full boost with no hesitation or missing. It is easy to replace either one or both. I was getting sick of driving a broken GN so I bit the bullet and bought both at once.

The coil pack and module have a crummy ground path. My car was missing and jerking randomly about 2 months after I had swapped coil packs. Pop the coil pack off, remove the bracket and clean all the bolted connections. Fixed my car for free. Improved the idle as well.

when the car is idling, lightly tap the top of the MAF with a screwdriver handle. If the idle changes, (engine starts to stumble) than you have a bad MAF sensor.
