HEY GUYS WENT FOR A RUN AND GOT A TICKING ITS A LIFTER WELL ANYWAYS I REMEMBER WHEN ME AND ROC CHANGED THE VALVE SPRINGS ONE OF THE PUSH RODS LOOKED TO HAVE RUBED ON THE HEAD SO I KNEW WHICH ONE IT WAS HERES MY PROBLEM

WHY IS:
MY PUSH ROD IS LONGER THAN A STOCK (I COMPARD) BY AN 1/8
COULD IT BE A CAM/LIFTER

WHY IS.
MY PUSH ROD RUBBING THE HEAD

MY FRIEND ALSO TOLD ME IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE LIFTER WITHOUT PULLING THE INTAKE BY USING A STRONG MAGNET AND IF FALLS PULL THE INTAKE WHICH I WOULD HAVE TO DO ANY WAYS

P.S
KEEP IN MIND I THOUGHT THIS MOTOR WAS STOCK SO I DONT KNOW THE HISTORY THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMEDIATELY
SORRY SO LONG

JOHNNY MONTOYA

I don't think the lifter will fit through the hole in the head. Since the pushrod was too long, it could have possibly damaged the rocker arm also. I'd replace the rocker arm and the pushrod with a proper one first and see what happens. The intake will have to come off undoubtedly if it ends up being the lifter. Rocker arm and pushrod at parts store surely can't be more than $5 + a new rocker shaft retainer button (the plastic thing that keeps it from sliding off the end).

You want to pull the intake anyways so you can inspect the cam lobe and make sure its ok. Some one was in there before and changed the lifter it sounds like, for some reason

THANKS GUYS BUT ONE QUESTION WHY IS THE PUSHROD LONGER THAN STOCK I WILL CHANGE THE ROCKER ARM AND PUSHROD ANY MORE IDEAS

THANKS

JOHNNY

Hey,Maybe whoever was in the engine the first time stuck the wrong parts in. You know how them rice-boy counterpeople down at the Auto-Zone know everything. I bet thats why the rod rubbed on the head. Several reason why but we'll never no the answer. I have a @#s-load of parts on the garage floor and them small block pushrods look damn near close to the Buick ones if you catch my drift.

All the pushrods are identical in length to the one in question. So it seems as though whoever owned the car before maybe swapped a cam, changed the lifters and....Pushrods? Usually when you do a cam swap you change the lifters but not the pushrods right? The rocker arms all seemed to be fine, but I'm certainly no expert on valvetrains.............Do all Buick cams come with the correct lifters? i.e. if they come with different lifters, woudl it require a pushrod change?
