This is a local guy I have known for years. He is going in for surgery today,

He was at work last week in our local TAMKO shingle plant and the roof collapsed in a portion of their building crushing part of his spine.

From what I am told he could not move at all. He has 2 young children.

We all don't realize how soon our lives can change!

Please pray for Shane Hoover and his family.

Shane is still doing good. He is on the respirator again and is sedated so he can get rested up from the surgery. They also put a chest tube in his left side. He does have restraints on which will not make him happy when he wakes up. Please keep him in your prayers as he recovers from surgery. amanda

That is awful... Hang tough for them bud!

Update by his brother!

It is another morning and physically, Shane has made some great progress since yesterday. Shane’s breathing is so much better. It takes him a lot less effort to breathe today. He still has to do a lot of coughing to keep trying to clear all the stuff from his lungs. They still have the oxygen candela on. The Dr. talked like he might remove the chest tubes on Shane’s right side this weekend or Monday. So we will have to see how that goes. It appears they have a handle on Shane’s blood pressure. This AM, they are in the process of getting his brace on and getting him sat up in a chair. They tried it last night, but only got as far as getting the brace on and sitting in the bed. So getting all the way to the chair, will be a big gain. Everybody says getting up will help him greatly with the clearing out of his lungs. Shane has had the TV on Sports Center since last night, so I think he is getting caught up on all sporting events. We have done some preliminary research in the Craig Institute out in Denver Colorado. The case manager has said she has contacted them and is looking at the end of next week or the beginning of the following week before they would transfer him there. Sounds like it will be his second time flying. Pretty sure he does not remember the flight from Phillipsburg to Kearney. Who knows, they might have to sedate him again…HaHa. As I finish this update, I went back in his room and he was being made to take a few bites of lunch by the nurse. He was giving her heck and rolling his eyes. Sounds like the Shane I know. Doesn’t like to be told or made to do anything that he doesn’t want to do. I will update more later. Continue the thoughts and prayers.

Thanks to everyone that prayed for Shane!

They removed bone fragments from his spine last week and found out that his spine was completely severed...........

He will not have any movement below the waist, unless rehab can gain him something.

He is headed to the Craig Rehab Center in Denver Colorado this Thursday.....

I will probably not update any more info as this is looking like a VERY long drawn out process....

Thanks again for your prayers!

Ty

Well …. We got the word from the Dr. It looks like Shane is going to have surgery on his back again tomorrow. It looks like the spine needs some extra support to keep it stable. During the first surgery, the Dr. went in through the front on the left side and put some rods on the left side of the spine. It looks like the spine is kind of hinging and bending to the right, thus causing the spine to not be straight. What this second surgery will do is add more rods along each side of the spine from the back side. When finished, this will help support the spine in both directions. Not sure exactly what time the surgery will be tomorrow, but will update when we know. Will also update when we have an approximate date for heading to Craig Hospital. Continue to keep Shane in your thoughts and prayers. Big Bro
