Oh, I'm not saying it's ok to have them here in NY. It's illegal, but you get a $55 ticket with 0 points. Even if you get ticked again, it's still $55. This is the way it should be. My original post was about disagreeing with the punishment.

There are far worse things going on and they get taken care of as well, but that doesn't excuse illegal behaviour elsewhere. Citizens/taxpayers complain about "street racers" because they're dangerous and kill people. They complain to the cops about "graffit artists" because it's vandalism and makes your city look like sh|t. Property owners call the police on "agressive skateboards" because they're on private property and if they break a leg GUESS WHO GETS SUED...the property owner. This is Common Sense 101.

No, they do it because it's what they're paid to do and the community expects a living standard to be upheld.

Meth labs get raided all the time. Just because YOU don't hear about it doesn't mean it's not happening. Some potentially newsworthy police activities are withheld for tactical reasons. You have no idea how many times the news calls us during and after some big events and we say "all quiet here". At the appropriate time information is released. Otherwise intelligence gathering and ongoing investigations can be jeopardized. Let me assure you, there are many more cops on the streets than you realize. Not everyone has a black and white with ticket books.

Yes, at the fresh young age of 16 I KNEW it was illegal to install blue lights anywhere on a car....DUH! For every 1 reason given that tint, head/taillight/license plate covers and colored lights should be allowed I can give 2 reasons they shouldn't. Wanna dress up your car like a UFO no problem, just keep it on private property.

For the record, I believe her punishment was too harsh. I can see a $150 fine and 2 points on her driving record.

Gotta disagree with ya big-time there. It's not a moving violation, therefore a ticket/small fine is enough punishment. It doesn't warrant any points.

Are you serious? So if you get cought speeding, or slapped with a wreckless driving ticket, it's just a ticket and no points? That is so awesome! I'm sure the liberals and neo-cons will disagree with me though.

Wreckless driving will get you a suspended license, but speeding is just a ticket. A friend of mine got caught street racing the other night and got a $950 ticket. He still has a license and got to drive home that night. I once got pulled over 9 times in one weekend. So yeah, no points system.

which is total crap cause it was supposed to be on a sliding scale moving up each year.

Let me assure you, there are many more cops on the streets than you realize. Not everyone has a black and white with ticket books.

I know all about the undercovers, they like to bother me for no reason other than thinking i'm someone i'm not, hint hint. But i'm ok with that cause if someone was driving my car i'd want the police to actually do their job and find it. BUT having tint doesn;t make everyone a criminal. I think its just the ultimate compliment to a black car.

i also agree that the points were unwarrented. I got a ticket for my stereo before but i didn't get points as it wasn't a moving violation. Also getting a moving violation isn't garenteed points anyway, its up to the officer.

I'm never rude to officers, i think they deserve respect for alot of crap they deal with but i don't want to be treated like a common criminal cause my windows are tinted and i drive a g-body.

One thing I am not aware of with this story is her pass record with the law. How many times has this "poor little girl" been warned about her illegal and dangerous lights? If she is anything like the little rice burning b&(%^& in Southern Cali, then she probably has an attitude a mile thick and asked for all the disrespect she has shown to everyone else on the road by running a confusing light display. On the surface it may look extreme, but history may well stand behind what the judge did. Besides, how many of us complain about the law being too lacks on so many things? Well, this judge had the guts to try and make an impression on this little chickie and hopefully get some of the other local idiots to put their cars and trucks back into an acceptable configuration on their lighting as well. ^5's to the judge. How many of you would be soft on this if she was driving drunk, stoned, or impaired in any way. It's the same principle: she thinks whatever she wants is right and everyone else has to live with it.

I agree with you... But we only see the one dimensional view.. The street rods, and not to really make this thread go in another direction but the "cobra eyes" are standalone lights. Where as the little blue things these guys drill into the taillights eluminate purplish... I know no argument made ... but felt compelled to say it..

A couple what ifs?

What if---

She told the officer he was a POS or as mentioned on other threads "Don't you have anything better to do?"

She told the Judge this was BullSh1t?

She was an over all smart azz?

or

She was polite, cooperative and a "Victim of Circumstance"?

The moral here is that there is only Assumptions and "what ifs" cause we really don't know what the totality of the event from stop to sentencing...
