Popping or loud ticking noise

Whenever I give it WOT, boost gets to about 16 or 17# I hear like a popping or a ticking noise coming from sounds like drivers side and the car will start to spit and sputter (best way to discribe it ) can anyone tell me where I should start?

How's your HEAD,gasket! Look at the exhaust manifold 3-5

does it have steel shim head gasket??

it is a freshly built engine with gm gaskets I believe

well then i'd look for the easy stuff first like cracked header or blown exaust gasket if you have any..

then i'd pull the valve cover and check for all rockers opening (cam lobe going flat)

Hey, Sloregal, how much knock was there?? Usually if it is an exhaust leak you can hear it more at idle especially with the ATR headers since there is no metal sparkplug protectors to deaden the sound at idle (isn't that what you run??) After you check for all those exhaust leaks take the valve cover off and make sure its not a wiped cam lobe or anything. Good luck, I bet its something simple.

Mine also pops but I get no knock so could this still be a head gasket have no antifreeze in the oil but do get bubbles in the overflow tank
