Jesus that pisses me off. You're living your life minding your own business and you have to deal with that BS. You should install a camera at the very top of your garage pointing to the street, and one inside the garage. Very easy installs with a dvr. You can also hook it up to your Internet and view them anywhere you are. I have that at home. I like the chaining of the garage door idea, and the razor blades. Mine is outside and I don't care who watches it. They'd have to know how to put the cherry picker together, get the engine back in and wire everything up.

Sorry I meant to say chain the car to the anchors. I also have a hole in my garage door track that I put a bolt through so the door can't be opened. The wheels in the track hits the bolt and won't go up any farther.

For those w/ openers, the perps are reaching over the door, hookijng the release lever/rope, and releasing the opener.
I have mine w/ a shield and no rope.
Window opaque is also a good idea. That way the lite comes thru, but they can't see in.

When I finish remodeling, I will have
Solid garage doors and a steel man door along with NO WINDOWS is how my babies will stay safe. Even the man door frame insert will be all steel.
The biggest thing that people find odd about me is I always refuse to have people, I do not know, come over to see the cars. I will bring a car to a friends house but they all know not to bring people to mine. Other car guys stop over, but only after I've known them for a good while.

I have a security system for the house and the garage on order. It won't make it impossible to steal but it will make it really hard to steal without getting holes poked through their bodies. Between me and my neighbor I don't think they will be able to dodge all the bullets!

Great job on staying aware. It's too bad that you'll have to walk on egg shells for the next while, but atleast you still have your GN. Besides your buddy neighbor, have you alerted other neighbors to this?

I have told the neighbors I like about what happened. The new security system will be here this week. Once it is installed I can bring the car back home from its hiding place. My neighbor that confronted the thief is a gun dealer and I wouldn't want he coming after me. That guy has more guns than our local police department. Most of the cops around here buy from him. So having him on my side is a really good thing.

I know I've posted it before, but I had a guy do a U turn in front of me while I was heading home one day. He had a tow dolly attached to the back of his truck and pulled right up to the gate in the fence. I was about 100 yards behind him and as I pulled onto the street I watched him get out and walk right up to the gate and try to get in. I pulled in right behind him and block the drive so he couldn't get out and walked up to see what he was thinking. In broken english he told me he "bought" my car in town and was here to get it. Glad I live in Texas because my pistol came out and he realized he made a mistake. Poor dumb bastard was more than happy to get in his truck and make dust getting out of the area. I told my neighbors what happened and they keep an eye out as well for things like this now and all of us are armed.

Now that I know about the razor blade trick I think I may do that on one of the cars waiting to get restored and trailer anchors under the car to chain it down are good ideas, but if someone's determined to get your car there's very little you can do to stop them other than be vigilant and keep the car as safe as possible. One thing I can tell you about trailer anchors is that we've used them to straighten bent frames with them, and in 1 instance, the chain tied to the frame broke and the anchor never moved.

Oh...so he's not just a neighbor, but a super neighbor! Good deal and hopefully part of your new system is linked to your phone to give alerts and provide video or still images atleast(most are nowadays anyway, right?).

Frikkin' theives got my '86 GN (purchased brand new) in '96 right out of my driveway. The Mother-in-law was in the house watching the baby while me and the wife caught dinner and a movie. The two barkingest dogs on the planet never made a sound.

Since my buddy's GN was in the garage for a fuel pump swap, I had mine in the driveway. I thought I had it pretty well covered. It had a car on one side AND in back of it and a block wall on the other side of it. They actually broke into and moved the car behind the GN to get it.

Never saw a trace of it again.

Fast forward 18 years. I have a Turbo Regal now and I'm much, much more careful, possibly to the point of paranoid. For good reason.

Got the new security system in place and it works like a charm. Thieves are going to have a hard time getting the car without catching a few rounds of lead in the process!!! Thanks to OnefastGN (Tony) for hooking me up with the info.

I have to agree with evil , should have spotted that a little earlier. but you did the right thing, taking the car with you. what I do when I see someone taking pictures , is take a picture of that persons car and their face ( if something were to happen you know who to track down) you have to be very careful. I have had the agony of having one stolen from me when I lived in Miami beach, almost went to prison for what I did. but I never saw my car again. this time the first $1k I spent was on lo-jack early warning system, cameras , column locks and a bunch of other stuff.
we all spend thousands on our engines but very little on security. lo-jack may not be the best, but it does give me a chance to get her back. you did the right thing in taking your car with you.
