Who wants to see the Buick powered 4 engine dragster at Nats??

I'm getting periously close to actually making arrangements to have TV Tommy Ivo's Showtime dragster appear at Nats this year. Of course, nothing come for free so we've got to pay to get him down there.

If you are interested in seeing this happen, chime in. There is a strong possibility that I may be trying to pan-handle for money to get this to fruition so if you're serious, let me know.

how about a grudge match between it and the worlds fastest olds powered rail?

now i would donate some cash to see that happen....

I haven't gotten to the nuts and bolts of the appearance yet, I would think we could get them to do SOMETHING with the car besides stare at it.

I am getting no offers of larger financial sponsors so far. I think we have a spot to keep it under a tent though.

FULL THROTTLE presents "Showtime - The TV Tommy Ivo 4 engine dragster !! "

Sounds nice huh? Just think, you could sell him 4 X the parts of your normal customer !!![

i'll throw in 100 if he will run the 390 cubic inch turbo olds....

:D

I'll never forget seeing that car at the Gulf Freeway Dragstrip in Houston in the late 50's-early 60's. I was most impressed by the sight of that thing smoking all four slicks all the way through the quarter. I also was impressed watching them change the 32 spark plugs. I think they probably did it for show, more than anything, but it worked for me.:)

It's looking like a go if we can raise some dough. We have one sponsor for $500. That leaves a sizeable gap still but we can make it happen.

If you're serious, and willing to follow through, post your donation or email the amount to me at:

davisrogerl@johndeere.com

If there isn't enough money ALL money will be returned and any leftover money will go towards a charitable cause or race purse.

will the line up for an exibition pass with the little olds with 2 hairdryers?

if so, put me down for 100.

Let's get the car there !! We need people to step up and donate transportation costs.

If you want to see it there, try and help.

Roger

Don't forget, we have a little single engined V-6 dragster down here in Florida that is planning on attending. I'm sure he wouldn't mind playing

someone race the little olds!!!!

:D

i just wanna see it run again

I've got news for you all.

It ain't gonna happen unless some people are willing to donate some coin. WE have to get busy and get some people to commit to some money.

If you want to see it PERIOD, then tell your friends to donate to the cause. We don't need to raise a huge amount, let's just get SOME money for this OR IT WON'T HAPPEN !!!

This is where the rubber hits the road.

We have a sizeable donation from a generous vendor for $500 to get the ball rolling. I'm in for at least $100.

We've got a ways to go if it will happen and not much time.

If we can't raise the money, ALL money will be returned. I'm good for it.;)

Why not just talk him into racing in one of the classes and give him an oppurtunity to take home the class purse:rolleyes:

Just wondering why the GSCA isn't paying for this. That's part of what the admission costs should cover.

This is the story.

I thought it would be cool to have this car there for the show this year due to all the media coverage surrounding the car. I suggested it and to my surprise, was encouraged by a member of the Nats staff to pursue it. I made a few phone calls and emails and was able to talk to Mr. Ivo personally. He's retired and had a medical problem he's recovering from. While I'd love to have him attend for just talking and showing the car, that's not in the cards. Since it was my idea, I was given the opportunity to make it happen, it was voluntary on my part.

I thought that I couldn't be the only one excited to see it happen but I was evidently mistaken. The only interest seems to be in seeing the car competed against. The car would be the rarest and most valuable car at Nats - period. I have no idea what the car would do while at Nats, it may not even run. However, the reasons I wanted the car there are:

#1 - it is a milestone car in drag racing
#2 - it is Buick Nailhead powered
#3 - I dig Buick powered car
#4 - I dig totally engineered and innovative cars that are far outside the box of what you're going to see at Nats.

A Nats board member was kind enough to get one sponsor for me on board without me making one phone call. I don't care about the profit or loss of Nats, I think it's too expensive too but I look forward to it more than any other race every year in spite of that.

I'd seen TB.com members come forward before to raise significant cash for a race purse. This, to me, is even more significant than something on that order. The other board has been gracious enough to even offer a place to park it. That's not free either but it IS a requirement for the car.

From what I know now, the cost is for transportation costs to get it from Cali to KY. I thought Mr. Ivo was being generous in sharing his car with us. To many, that isn't generous enough, he has to pay money out of his own pocket to bring the car to where we can see it. HE'S NOT EVEN COMING due to his health.

I still believe that there is enough generosity of this board to finance the car's appearance. If no one is willing to contribute beyond myself and one sponsor, no one will get to see it unless you know the owner and get invited to his private garage.

I though this would be a slam dunk.
