Hello can anyone ASAP help me and tell me how to install this bad boy? It came in like a plastet cover over the chip dont know how to get it out dont want to brake it, Also how do i get the old chip out of the ECM? So if someone could help me out here i wanna put it in ASAP but thaught i would ask first. Thanks
Brian

To remove chip: First disconnect orange wire located by battery. It has a weatherpack connector that you just unplug. Now gently pry up on each end of the chip until it comes out. Notice there is a notch on the right side of the chip. Make sure you install the new chip with the notch on the same side. Be careful that you do not bend any of the 'legs' when installing the new chip. It will be a tight fit the first time installed. Reconnect the orange wire. Drive the car so the new chip can be 'learned'.

Ok Thanks can you tell me what the plastet pice is that is over the new chip? how dose that come off? Also how long will it take for it to learn the new chip? Thanks
Brian

I don't know anything about the plastic piece. The chip you install should look like the chip you take out.
Just drive the car for about 15 minutes.

Are you talking about the carrier the chip comes in?
If so, that stays attached.
It should have some small legs on one end and wider ones on the other.
Like Look Quick said, make sure you install the same way the old one was removed.

Ok ES1 Thanks to the both of you:) also they say to wear rubber gloves and ground my self out can you tell me a good way to ground my self out? Thanks for alll the help

I just touch metal with my finger to discharge prior to installing the chip.

Ok Thanks everyone i got it installed now here is a problem i went with the Poston 91 Chip, has any one ever put this chip in? because welll it made my car idel really good but like it said when i got the chip it said in there that it will rase the rev limiter to 6000 RPMS and it dident its still stuck at 5000 RPM's Also when poston refers to the "RACE" chip or the "street" chip what is the diff? how do i get the Race its not listed there? Well thanks everyone i really hope someone can give me a answer.
Brian

I have one of those chips. The race chips are just chips designed for race gas- like 108 octane and what not. Those chips, atleast last time I checked at that horrible place *barf*, they are red armstrong chips. Your trans is set up to shift at 5k, if you want to bump the rev limiter, you need to tighten your TV cable...but unless you have done lots of work to your car, let it shift at 5. The rev limiter causes the engine to start cutting out so it doesnt over rev. I think stock it was at 5500.

also with the race chips you see a loss in streetability, maybe a bit in idle, but the converter wont lock up until like 65mph rather than the stock 45.

My advice is to read post here and www.gnttype.org before you start changing things with your car.
1st with most aftermarket chips you need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, so fuel pressure can be set.
2nd - fuel pressure gauge
3rd - make sure your fuel pump has been updated.
4th - scantool
Race chips require race gas.
If you do not have the basic upgrades in place, it might cost you major engine work.

Well what do you mean major enigne mods? I have a Auto Meter Boost Gauge a Aftermarket fuel presh reg. no scantool, so why dose the chip say it will up my rev limiter to 6000?

It is obvious that you have no idea about how to tune these cars. You will probably blow up the engine(I know by my past inexperience). Stop-do the research,(GNTTYPE.ORG as well as here). Keep your money in your wallet and only spend it on what is needed. My two cents. Brad

If you do not have the car in tune with 0-little knock, you risk blowing headgaskets and if anti-freeze gets into your oil, bearings.
I do not know why the chip has a 6000 rev limiter since most stock GNs tac out around the 5000 area.

Ok well tell me this the guy that had it before me had a chip in it. But i wanted to put this one in there. How would you say that it would blow my engine up? It seems to run great with it in there no knock runs strong tell me whats wrong?

Without some sort of scantool you can't tell if it's knocking or not. Your next mod needs to be a scantool of some type!!!!

not all knock is audiable and even the car sometimes cant hear some of the detonation. The reason Red prob made the chip allow the car to rev to there is that his isnt really tuned to your car, just your injectors and octane - this allows him to sell the chip to someone with ported heades, a new cam, etc..(things you need to effectivly rev to 6k) or to someone with a bone stock car with the same chip. Turbo Tweak chips are made based on your turbo, injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, etc... to give you a much more personalized tune. (Not bashing Red's, just showing the difference) Please read the boards and ask questions and spend lots of time at gnttype.org, it makes a word of difference. Also, from my experience, shop around and see what everyone else is buying and see if that is the same thing coming from Poston - I used to buy from Poston and the prev owner jsut threw the Poston catalog at my car - most of that has been removed for better quality parts.

Alright sounds good would you say if im going to wreck something on my car i mean like i have a aftermarket pump a cold air intake boost controller boost gauge, and the guy that had it put a 30 HP chip but i wanted this one so i could run a little bit more boost. Who makes the chip that i got? Should i turn up my fuel Press? It seems to be redlineing at like 4500 now for some reasion why would it change? Thanks
Brian

Your chip is Red Amrstrong's. As long as you shift around 5k you will be fine as long as you are getting the octane for the chip..make sure you use atleast 91 if you are going to run the 18# on a 91 octane chip. You a re not redlining at 4500...your redline is just a number stated by the engine builder based on what the internals can handle without breaking apart. The redline is about 5200 rpms. It is your transmission that is determing how high you shift - not your rev limiter or redline. Also, the stock tach isnt always accurate, you are probably shifting between 4800 and 5200 rpms, which is right where you want it. Your tansmission shifts based on pressure and your throttle position. If you have an adjustable feul pressure regulator, you set it to 42lbs of pressure at idle with the vaccum line off.

rummage through the tech sections for some more ideas.
