So I thought I had an antenna problem bc the last time it went down it wouldn't come back up. I turned the radio on and it works but antenna won't come up and the motor doesn't run, I can't hear it. Thought for sure I had a broken cable even though I put a metal cable in. I took out the antenna and bench tested it and it works fine. It must not be getting any power from the radio. Where do I start checking and what for?
I guess I can go ahead and put the antenna back in bc that seems fine. Thanks for the help.

Why not check the power antenna connector for power under the hood with a meter. I had another power antenna to swap in my car to test it. I believe the contacts / switch inside the power antenna could be dirty. I plan on opening the case and cleaning them. My antenna would work occasionally.

I will do that but I also would like to know where the 12v power comes from and how to check that. The antenna itself seems to work fine. Thanks

I checked the 12v power at the connector from the radio and all is good there. Everything put back together and works fine for now. Maybe a bad connection at the connector? I don't know but it works. Thanks for the help.

There are contacts inside the antenna for up and down that can get dirty and stop operation.
As well as external relay contacts and radio switch that can cause issues but that's a more rare failure mode.

I think the GM Buick manual has a drawing in it that shows the wiring if I remember right. If you want to find your answer about where the power comes from. My guess is the contacts inside the power antenna are dirty. I clean them by running a business card through them a few time to remove the dirt. Could use contact cleaner.
