Hey guys,

I just picked up a GN and the power antenna doesn't work... what else is new lol. On my old GN, the antenna motor constantly ran so I had it unplugged under the hood but you could manually slide the antenna up/down when you needed to. On my new one, you can't manually push it down, it's basically stuck in the up position. I greased it up but there is a ton of resistance if you try to lower it. I didn't want to force it and end up breaking the motor/mast. The connection under the hood was unplugged when I got it so I reconnected it and it didn't do anything; radio on or off. Any ideas?

Could the antenna motor be ok and that is why it won't lower by hand? I'm guessing if that's the case, there is another issue as to why the harness was disconnected and why it doesn't work when reconnected.

I need help from you Buick gurus, I've been out of the game for almost 10 yrs

1° Check to see if the fuse is good...2° If it is, check to see if you have some 12v. going to the motor and...3° if there is 12v. then it looks like if the electric motor might be defective...Also, if you hear a constant clicking sound, it means that the mast has to be replaced.

Claude.

P.S: GBodyParts.com Online has all the necessary parts to fix your antenna...

Thank you, I will check once the weather clears up a bit!

I may be in trouble for saying this, but I changed mine out for a plain black mast antenna like you'd see on a camaro and it looks great compared to the power one. The reception is better also. I've had two GN's in the last 20 years.

You know, I was also thinking of doing this! What are the steps you need to take and what parts are needed?

The mast repair kits used to be about 20 bucks. Don't think they're avalable any more though. :frown: Anyone know?

I did get a mast repair kit from Brian at GBodyParts.com Online a while ago, but I'm not sure they're still available now...Maybe Brian will jump in to answer this!...

Claude.

The nylon cable only was discontinued it was $23.00. Now you have to buy the new mast with the cable in order to get it rebuilt. Not a bad thing. Most cable break due to the mast being bent & causing strain on the cable & the motor.
Here is what it looks like: GBodyParts.com Online

On manual antennas. Make sure if you buy used get the plastic bezel. They are discontinued. We have the new manual antenna nut if you buy a chrome version off of a chrome package regal. Do not buy one from another Gbody as the plastic will not work.

There is also another less known manual antenna. It is in the glass of older regals normally 81-83. It has a plug connection in the fire wall area that leads down to the radio. It is dead center of the glass.
The front glass isn't cheap but will give you a very clean look. The antenna lead must be retrieved from an antenna glass car. 83 or older. This is no longer available either.

We have sold a lot of manual antennas in the last few years as the plastic cables are not the quality they used to be. I'm guessing that is why they were discontinued the old stock just ran out.
