I was driving down the highway and my radio started crackling like it was getting a bad signal. When I looked at my antenna, to see if it was fully extended, it wasn't there. I pulled over to find my antenna hanging against the side of my fender.

I still have the bezel as you can see in the photo. I thought all I needed was a nut to prevent the extended antenna from coming completely out of the fender. I ordered a power antenna nut and as you can see in the photo it is threaded on the outside. The top of the antenna assembly is also threaded on the outside.

I am not sure what part I need that goes on the top of the antenna assembly, that goes on top of the bezel and holds the antenna in place. Does anyone know what part I need and where to get it?

Thanks,
Bill

Don't know how much help I can be but...... If memory serves, you have the correct nut, just the wrong antenna. My antenna assemblies are inside threads to accept the type nut you have.

I was wondering if that might be the problem. I guess someone that owned the car before me put a different power antenna in it. I guess it is time to start looking for a correct power antenna.

Thanks,
Bill

Good luck finding one. The correct one's are no longer in production. Something to do with quality control issues. Hopefully they'll get them back in production for I croak.

Well, this is my second 1987 GN. I owned my first one 12 years ago when I was working as a Buick engine performance tech at a dealership in Tulsa, OK. Parts were relatively easy to get then. I sold that one before I joined the Army and just bought my current 87 GN a year ago when I returned home to OK. Things have changed drastically as a GN owner this time around. I am really just starting to learn about what is still available and what isn't.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what people are currently using as a power antenna replacement? Does anyone make an aftermarket that fits and doesn't look too bad? Even though it won't be correct, I would like to do something about the bare antenna mast sticking out of my fender as soon as possible.

Having said that, I will continue to scour the internet and my local salvage yards and post here if I find anything.

Thanks as always!

Bill

Anyone know why the antenae wasn't placed into the windshield? Sure would make for a cleaner look.
