Power antenna replacement

I did a search and could find NO definitive answer so my question is as follows. Is there a particular brand and specific part number that works best and LAST? I am thinking of going manual as some others have at this point.

There aren't many options. As far as I am aware, since I just replaced mine and dealt with this same dilemma, these are the choices:

1. Repair your antenna with parts from our vendors.
2. Buy a used one from wherever you find, including here.
3. Buy a NOS one. There are one or two here for sale.
4. Buy the power antenna aftermarket unit from either of 2 of our vendors who sell it.
5. Move to a fixed mast. I almost did this via a GM universal kit from the local parts store. I wasn't sure what to do about a bracket so I abandoned this.
6. Get rid of any antenna in that spot at all and move to some sort of windshield based antenna.

I went with #4 last weekend and I am happy. I just hope it LASTS.

Has anyone had good luck with a particular brand/part# fixed mast antenna for our cars?
