Well, I have this printed n a book at home:

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/torque.html

I could have sworn that there was something like a "upper intake to lower intake" item in the list but I can not seem to find it. Like I said, I thought it was 25, but now I am not sure. I will look when I get a chance if it makes a difference.

Latter,

I installed my Power Plate tonight (thanks Jason for the quick delivery!).

All said and done, including making and installing the studs, took about 1 hr. As others had mentioned before, I decided to install studs instead of messing with the bolts & soft aluminum of the intake (they were already starting to go).

I went to my local Sears Hardware store and purchased (5) M8 - 1.25mm x 50mm bolts. I cut the heads off the bolts and used these, along with some JB Weld, for my studs. Everything is nice and tight now and I don't expect any problems in the future.:)

FWIW...

In the FWIW dept... The torque applied to a bolt is absorbed at 80% in the first 4-5 threads.. The additional threads are, for the most part, "just along for the ride"..And as already mentioned, help w/ the alignment of the fastener in the hole....More "so what" trivia from the "old fart"..:D :D

Thanks!

I had the same problem with my Power Plate install, I thought it was just me. Thanks for the info.

A helicoil kit comes with every thing needed drill tap and helcoil. You drill the hole out bigger tap it and screw in helcoil. And it adapts the hole back down to original size. The helicol itself looks kinda like a spring.

Not sure if anybody has tried them, but Eastwood's sells a type of helicoil kit that is more of a fully threaded sleeve that goes into the hole.

I'm replacing my TB and upper and one of the holes is already helicoiled, but it's slightly off which makes the bolt go in kinda funny.

If anybody has used the kit that Eastwood's sells, let me know.

Helicoil Question

To the people that Helicoiled, is there a problem with getting the drill in there dead nuts straight- ie. crooked helicoil - or are they a little tolerant?

Mike:

I dunno, I seemed to have a problem. I helicoiled it once, and I didn't like the way it sat in there. Drilled it out, did it again, and it ended up stripping some of the threads off the bolt, but it held ok.

I plan on redoing it again.

I'd be interested in seeing if anybody else had a prob.

Rich

Putting studs in is VERY easy. If you were to make them just long enough and used a factory nut, you'd be hard pressed to tell it didn't come like that from the factory like that. Additionally, you'll have less chance of materials from the drill falling into the intake.
