My son has the ninja 4 wheeler its a hand me down but in good shape. the gears sound stripped and are getting worse. Do i need the motor and gears . i looked up gears and an authourized center will not sell motor/gears. It says must be installed by an authorized dealer. Anyone run across the gears grinding.

Just look for another exact model & strip it like if it was a junkyard dog.

I have also seen lots of used parts for these on Ebay.

I will be doing my son's 4wheeler and gator this weekend. You can take the "transmission" apart and put a bolt through the main gear to keep it centered. The housing flexes and allows the gear to ride off the plastic housing, causing loss of contact with other gears. I'll post pics of the process on one of my web sites when it's done.

Click on the "PowerWheels" link in UNGN's signature. That's some seriously COOL stuff. I've been meaning to buy the CD he put's out of mod's to them for month's now. really gotta get to that b4 the monkey gets any bigger!!;)

It depends on the year of the ninja about what you need to do.

If its a 2004 -up Ninja it has #7 gearboxes which are in most 2 seat jeeps. Since those gearboxes are relatively strong, you probably have an older model with the #3 gearboxes.

Not much you can do about those if they strip. Make sure the screws holding the motors in are tight.

I probably have some gearboxes laying around somewhere. Don't use any type of traction band with the #3 gearbox, ever.

i took it apart today and it looks like the motors/gearboxs are ok, its the adapters that connect the gearboxs to the tires. the inner so called splines are stripped out causing them to slip. I swapped them side to side the put the wear on the opposite sides of the splines but now the left tire is slipping. I will have to order those. Ungn do you have these parts.

I have the DUNE VW Bug, the traction bands work great, more grip taking off and stopping, and quieter. Not recommended I know, but....

#7 gearboxes can take traction bands OK. Its the Number #3's that strip out.

The Dune bug should be fine since it has the stronger #7 gearboxes.

Hobbymasters has adapters for $5. I probably don't have any that aren't cut up.

Get UNGNs CD, I have it, and did the boost (extra 6v battery), its pretty quick now.

UNGN, my model number is 73690 but there is 2 versions before Jan 04 and after Jan 04. Im not sure how old this quad is. Is there anouther way to tell which gearboxes i have. Or can i upgrade to the #7 gearboxes. thanks
