Hello all,

I'm getting my to-do list of things to fix when I get back to the states. One of them is the power windows on my parents 2000 Grand Prix.

My father called me a few weeks ago and said that the passenger side windows (4 door) just stopped working. The wouldn't roll down at all. My father first tried the button at the driver's side door to make them go down and nothing. Then tried the switch at the door itself and still nothing. (Don't laugh) Then after a good hard slamming shut, the windows started working again. I can imagine it's something simple, but I wanted to ask those on here, what they think/know it is so I can just go straight to it, fix it and move on.

I've heard this is a somewhat common problem with these cars.

Many thanks in advance.

Well, it's a loose connection, poor connection or perhaps a broken wire. Obviously the window motors, regulator and switch do work after slamming the door. Not much else left though that's a gross understatement when it comes to wiring. :p

My wife's 99 grand prix did the same. they quit working and then started again and then quit. So i went on ebay and bought a new motor, replaced it, not too hard and have had no problems. They are not riveted in so they makes it easier...

the window motor is bad, if you can slam the door and it will work......this usually will happen if you hold the switch, and slam the door.

get a new motor.
