OK long story short, had a big problem happen. driving my gn spinning it at about 7krpm, ran out of oil.... , yea i know stupid me.... but it wasn't completely all my fault. well anyways, lucky didn't lock motor up, cam sized and broke timing chain first...:(. after about $4,000 in parts to fix everything and get a rebuild im left with the question did my turbo survive? it looks OK very little shaft play and spins fine.
but how would i know for sure??
it was hooked to a turbo saver, don't know if that would help with low oil besides the fact that the filter will hold some oil in it. maybe it saved the turbo??o_O

but i dont know how to tell if its ok, or should i break and spend the money and send it to precision?? or if anyone knows a good place that rebuilds them in TX???

trying to save at least a lil bit of money. my girls yelling at me putting money in the car lol:oops:.

any advice would be a big help!

If it ran for any amount of time spooled with no oil pressure it likely did some damage. There's no knowing what damage may or may not have occurred till it's opened up. It's possible it did nothing. Its also possible it did extensive damage.

yea very true....i see that you work on them, have u seen anything similar to this before?

I've seen plenty. Welded thrusts, seized shafts, scored journals, wasted bearing housings, worn out seal plates, parts missing from initial assembly that caused failure, shaft nuts that werent torqued, Teflon tape in the cartridge, foreign metal in the thrust bearing, etc.

what would you charge to check it out for me? im pretty sure nothing is seized up. its spinning fine. and little to no play. just rather be safe.
