i did some reading on this, but do i have to loosen the rockers ? what if i don't ?. which vac leaks will cause
the most problem with idle ? thanks

I builds pressure on the compression stroke and the gauge has a one way valve. If i'm thinking correctly here.

i want to check for vac leaks , i'll check it from the throttle body or the maf pipe , after i make a pressure tester
would a bad pcv cause any idle problems?

If you don't close all the valves the system will not be sealed. The test will will not work very well.

Vacuum leaks will effect idle and low rpm more that anything.

M.O. get a hand held vacuum pump and start testing all the circuits.

A pcv is a controlled vacuum leak. That said the wrong one for the application may effect things but I don't see the right one going bad and causing a problem. The main thing is to make sure the line is good and it seals shut under boost.

Is the car lean at idle?

Mike your post wasn't clear as to what you were seeking an answer to, compression testing or pressurizing the vacuum system. What year is your car? Under the hood there should be a sticker w/the vacuum circuits. Take note of the check valves if you have them, also.

how do you plan on testing for leaks. I put the air compressor on the inlet pipe and applied 10psi to it. then sprayed soapy water on all the fittings, the turbo, and vacuum lines looking for bubbles it worked good. I also covered one tail pipe and applied air to the other to test the exhaust system.

Austin why are you always putting things up your tailpipe? Never mind I know why!

Mikes GN,
It is spelled vague. What you wrote is the slang abbr. for vagina. I almost choked on my sandwich when I read what you wrote! Thanks for the good laugh though.

Mike did you gain any information that you were looking for? I tested without touching the valves it worked just fine.

Nice there is a special place for tail pipe talk. ;)

Good luck! What are your BLM #'s
