I just put in my bigger injectors in and wanted to test for any leaks. Can I pressurize the injectors without having any coolant in the car and having the turbo off or do I have to put everything back on then test it out? I would hate to have to put these things back on then find a leak and have to tear it all down again.TIA

If you just want to test to see if they leak then hood them up to the rail then hook up the fuel lines and install it in the intake.

Turn the key fwd till you hear the pump. leave it on for a few and check the injectors to see what's happening.

I did it with mine yesterday.

Check them and there fine.:D I can't believe with my luck I didn't blow myself up or the car. :p Lets just say this is a big relief off my back.

Injector pressure

I am installing #30 psi disk style Poston injectors with the caspers Ultra chip on my 1984 Buick GN. Do I set the injector pressure at 45 lbs with the vacuum line off? Then the pressure drops to 40 when I connect the vacuum line again? Will the chip handle the larger size injectors? Poston said it would, because they are stock replacement. My car surges badly now when it warms up and gets much better once warmed up and in closed loop, but I can still feel it alittle. I have had the Ultra chip in the car for about a year and with the stock injectors I never had the surge issue. I also just put in a Spearco intercooler, what do I need to change on the tune? With the old stock injectors it never had that problem. Thanks Mr. Buick

I thought that 28lb/hr injectors was stock. I would call and ask Caspers just to be on the safe side to see if the chip they made will work on those new injectors. You might have to have them burn you a new one specific fot those.

That surge always seems to happen to mine when it gets out of tune. I think it's the IAC. Just have to retune it with a scan tool. I won't have to barrow one any more I think I'll be buying T-link soon. My car never wants to stay well tuned for along time so I have to just tune tune tune.

Mr buick,
if you havent adjusted yer IAC screw since before you put the intercooler on, i would say that is should be fine

but if your car is surging pretty bad, i would be looking more towards vacuum leaks, in the car
you can replace every single sensor and adjust every part on that car if you want, but if you got vacuum leaks in it, its still gunna surge and rev up and down and drive ya nutty

i would be looking more for vacuum leaks, ESPECIALLY since you just added an intercooler, and added ALOT of piping and plumbing..

Id check for leaks with TB cleaner or wd-40, or whatever you prefer.

when i took my turbo off of my car and upgraded, it revved up and down, and surged like crazy

i''d spray behind the turbo when the piping goes into the intake, even check the intercool piping and the rubber hoses for the wastegate actuator etc

then i did some vacuum leak tests, I was shocked how many stupid hoses and pipes leaked, or i had forgotten to put back on !

just for the hell of it, borrow a vacuum gage and see what it says

hopefully my ramblin' leads ya in the right direction:D

Surging

I just put on the Spearco intercooler and the 30 lb injectors and haven't driven the car yet. I have a major exhaust header leak now hat appears to be caused by pressure from the up pipe pushing on the header. I think that the turbo is mounted a little lower and put additional pressure on the header or my header may have cracked I haven't found the exact leak point yet. That maybe why it surges? At idle you don't have boost so maybe the vacuum leak idea has merit. I did have all the vacuum lines disconnected. I will do some more checking, Thanks Mr. Buick

well you will have a blast getting yer exhaust leaks fixxed.
i know i did when i installed my headers,
if you didnt take yer manifolds or crosspipe off it might not be leaking there
its probli that dreaded up-pipe, that thing is a pain in the ass to get sealed at both ends, and the aftermarket stainless one, is even worse lol
Atr sells some exhaust gaskets that worked nicely on mine
if the exhaust housing on the turbo is sittin lower them the up-pipe , and wont line up
i put a jack under neath the car, underneath the down pipe
and just jacked it up ever so slightly to raise the turbo up a tad.

u will hear the exhaust leaks, but i dont think it would make your car rev up and down
most likely it would hurt your boost and make your car run rich also
your not gunna find alot of turbos regals that run smoothe when it has sat a while

but id check for the leaks, in the vacuum hoses and even the plumbing for the intercooler

only other thing i coudl thing of, could be to adjust the tps, and reset the IAC

Exhaust leak

I always have trouble finding the proper gasket for the up pipe turbo side with the flange adaptor. No parts department seems to be able to give me the right gasket. The graphite down pipe gasket is availible and not a problem. I see Postons has copper gaskets, is that the right gasket for the up pipe? All it said in the ad was Gasket, inlet bell gasket to turbo. 1984-1987 copper #PE834721, $7.88 Anyone use this gasket? Thanks Mr. Buick

well the only gasket i had bought, was a copper gasket that is shaped like a triangle (3 bolt)
i just put that behind that thick stock gasket for the top of the up pipe
it made for a nice fit,

and for the bottom, i just sanded the flange a lil bit to make sure there were no burrs or such

and went back and forth trying to get an even fit:D

Yeah thats the right gasket for the up pipe to turbo. I use it and it works great. As for fitting it on tight I tighten up the bottom of the up pipe to the header first then the up pipe to the turbo.
