Problem with internet/connection to network

I have a laptop here that I am working on for a friend. I had to wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP and then update everything. So now it has SP2 and all other current updates.

Everything seems to be working fine now except for the internet. I am connecting to the campus network through the ethernet card. I can get the internet to work for a couple of minutes and then it just stops. I get the "page cannot be displayed" on the screen or an error message that says "Internet Explorer could not open the search page"

I'm not sure where to go from here. The driver for the network card is up to date and working properly (according to windows device manager).

It's an HP laptop if that makes any difference.

i also have an hp-laptop ( pavillion) mine got screwed up also my sis says hay aol computer check-up can fix it, i was like yeah right, but dude it works fine now, you just got to have somebody that has AOL, it worked for me
