i have a little 94 dodge shadow with a 2.2l in it. heres what it is doing. from a stop when you give it gas it feels like it's slipping then it will go, sometimes with a slight bang. like if you go into drive while the car is warming up on high idle. not all the time tho. if i put it in first it is fine. sound like maybe a sticking valve or bad spring maybe?

3 speed front wheel drive chrysler transmissions would either have problems with differential or transfer shaft bearings wearing causing metal to get stuck in the valve body and governor , also assuming its non turbo the converter clutch lining woild come apart. Either way it would take off in 2nd or 3rd gear from a stop and sometimes downshift back to first. Drop your pan and check for debris

413A transmissions blow get it bulletproof otherwise you will be back fixing it in 6 months.

They do blow ! I worked for dodge for 16 years doing their transmissions , the 413 in my opinion was much better than the famous 604 , in 1989 when they first came out some never made it down the road befor they were stuck in 2nd gear , after all assuming its a non turbo shadow , how bullitproof does it have to be for a 95 horsepower 2.2

Being that it sucked, any bullet proofing will esure a hassel free driver, I went through 6 rebuilds before I got the billet internals and was night and day that was on a turbo 2.5

car leaves in first gear and like i said it's stop and leaves fine next stop does it. only when you first hit the gas drives and shifts fine otherwise. if i put it in first and manually shift to 2nd it doesn't do it at all. could it maybe a dirty filter? it feels like it's slipping but car moves then a slight bump and it's fine

If your sure its leaving in 1st gear then most likely the forward frictions are failing , most likely the splines of the frictions are ground down causing it to grab occasionally 2.2 non turbo applications used 3 frictions if you have to rebuild it update it to a four pack. You did check mthe fluid level and condition first right ? Try a service it cant hurt.

As a side note when you pull the shifter into manual low you are applying the low-rev band which is preventing the overrunning clutch from being used , more of an indication that the rear clutch pack is more than likely the problem.

the fluid level is good and the fluid still looks bright red and smells ok, not burnt. i put lucas oil trans fix in it (1/2 btl) and it helped for a little while but it's back to doing the same thing,no worse i might add. looks like i'm going to have to it rebuilt. any idea on what these things cost to rebuild? cash is TIGHT right now

You have by far one of the easiest front wheel drive transmissions to remove. When worked for dodge , did so many i used to have them pulled out in under fifteen minutes , someone actually timed me , anyway a used one from a salvage yard would be your cheapest way . I get them for around 150.00 dollars. But you will take a chance with any used part especially considering the age of the car . Rebuild should run you 1000.00 up depending on any hard parts needing to be replaced. Hope this helps!

You can go two different ways here ,$699.00 for a rebuild and you give them your trans 300$ core, or go $1400 for upgraded clutch packs, adjustable line pressure, oil drain plug, spring block style LSD,manual valve body ..
