I'm doing an 86/87 ecm conversion on my hot-air and wanted to know what the differences in the PROMs are. Dealer told me there are 3 different choices. What are the part numbers for the PROMs you guys have, and are there any differences and/or benefits/drawbacks. Thanks for the input.

cmw -86
acxa 87 (later recalled)
bbkj -replacement for 87 under recall

i wouldnt go with a stock chip in any car except maybe for emiisions test

get an aftermarket burned for your combo, fuel and desired boost
running on the stock chip and going WOT is just asking for trouble

the stock wont turn the fan(s) on soon enough and even if you installed a 160 thermostat the temps will still run aroud 190 and the chip has too much timing for even premium pump gas , it will allow the egr to function and the temps to rise for a cleaner emmision test .

check that your backup prom (the little one ) is correct for the turbo since the 1227148 ecm was available in FWD cars . if you got the ecm used and it came from a turbo than you probably have the right one , if you purchased new (or rebuilt ) youll need that prom .

Do you know how much they charge for a fairly mild chip? Also how long to ship? Thanks for the replies.
