Anyone ever used one of these? Do they put off a lot of heat? Or just waste propane? They say they range from 8,000 to 15,000 BTU's. It would be used in my 2 car garage that's just big enough for 2 cars (no idea on the sq. footage) to take off the chill for the days I work out in the garage. (it's not heated)

we used one in the bleachers for soccer games worked ok never used in enclosed space thou.

I have one of the single burners. It doesn't do much good in my 2 car with 9'.

I have a bigger rental style burner on a stand that works much better.

They sell the same thing that you show but with 2 or three burners, I would get one of those.

..

I would buy one with 2 burners. I heat a 20x30 insulated garage with a 2 burner unit. I can usually turn off one burner after I reach a workable temperature.

buy a torpedo type propane heater,,they have a fan that moves the air around..nice

Propane heat creates moisture. I have one in my 1 car garage and everytime i use the thing everything in my garage gets wet. The first time i used it I freaked as this is where I have my gun safe bolted to the floor. Gun's + Moisture= Rust... Very bad.

haven't used it since.... Electric heat if you dont want condensation in your garage..

I have one in my 2 car garage. Worthless with high ceilings. I use a salamander but the noise drives me crazy. Next garage will have radiant floor heat

i have one of those with 3 elements.

my 2.5 car garage/shed is drafty as heck
SO i only use it for certain things
for example i was doing a drum to disc conversion so i just put it facing the area i was working on and heated up all of the parts and as i was working on the parts they radiated the heat back to me.

Most of the time i use 2 wood burners to heat up the whole garage.

A guy I know has an attatched garage with the bigger heater like that and it doesn't keep up with the real cold weather. I have one of those big torpedo heaters that runs off diesel fuel. I run #1 in it and it heats up my 2.5 stall very well and does it within 20 minutes. BUT if I was to do it over again I would have wired up a 220 electric heater and been done with it. Quieter, cleaner, and you don't have to stand out in the cold and fill up a can for diesel fuel either. One other good thing about the diesel heater is that you can aim it at one certain area or thing and warm it up quick and you can light your cig off it too:biggrin:

Thanks...I know about the torpedo headers you speak of...on the job site in high school we called them "salamanders". However the sucky thing is I have to spend some $$$ to get one. Yes I'm a poor broke bastard. Guess I'll start saving for next winter now.

I was a VERY broke bastard when I first bought my car. If I didn't have credit, I wouldn't have anything. If you can, get a menards card or something like that that has 6 months/no interest and go buy a heater THIS winter:cool:
