I have been researching what would be my best option.
A few vendors sell Protorque convertors (mfg is based out of NY)
They have a 9" with a 10.4" lock up clutch. Has anyone run one and have any experiences they can share?

Thanks for the reply Chris. What I am really looking for are comments from consumers that arent tied into distributors.

ive got the 10 inch 2800 converter in my car. i guess it has around 10000 miles on it. its been good to me. :D

I had one of their 10" l/u a while ago in a car I wish I had kept!! It was a good conv.. used it a few years behind a TE62 worked great, no problems.

I have one of their 10" 3K RPM stall converters in my car. It works awesome. When I destroyed my thrust bearing (along with #3 and #5 mains), I decided to have it checked out just in case that it was responsible. I had bought it from Level10, but I knew it was a ProTorque converter, so I called them. They were awesome to deal with and very knowledgeable.

They are a bit pricey, though, and Bruce can probably get you one of his great converters for about the same $ including shipping from the left coast.

MIXDup2TRs What stall was your converter?

I'm getting one of theirs and the 62 turbo. :)

TIA

I am not bashing any vendors or starting a flame war, but there have been several people I know around here running Bruce's convertors and have had problems. Now granted, I believe he has TCS do them, but the fact of the matter is one of the people who had one of Bruce's convertors come apart was given another one. The car became an absolute dog. Many knowledgeable TR guys drove it and all said it felt like the convertor was too tight.
Bruce argued and insisted it wasnt. Only till another local vendor stepped in and swapped the convertor to one of his own that was a higher stall. Miraculously the problem was solved.
I am not bashing Bruce, but from myself (works in the auto repair industry) I would have just humored the guy and given him another convertor. Now, granted, I only heard one side of the story. But I would feel better buying from a vendor who's door step I could show up on if I had a problem.
I also heard that someone here in Jersey had a 9x11 come apart.
I am just gathering info before I buy. Please dont fault me for that. Would you buy something if you heard conflicting info?

"Would you buy something if you heard conflicting info?" NO, I wouldn't..

I would like to know who we are referring to. I will address it at that time. As far as "several" I do not believe the two you mentioned over what is in service is a relative figure. NOBODY is God and NO product is ever perfect. All we can do is strive for perfection but in actuality, can never be obtained. I have no beef and I have no problem discussing a problem as all have them. I also believe the instance you are referring to was a D5 and not a 9X11 but I could be wrong. ON AVERAGE , my broken or warranty rate is less than 1%. Now my question... How and what more can you expect of me or our products? I do the best I can and go so far outta my way in aint funny, I am fair, have a conscience and sleep well at night. That is about as much as you could ask. :D

Bruce,
Listen to me. I WAS NOT POSTING THAT AS BASHING!
Now that is out of the way. I was not going to name names out of respect for all parties involved. I probably shouldnt have said anything as I knew it would turn into flame sesssion.
I have had great luck with you parts and your advice. I was not questioning your warranty rate either.
But I just want to make sure that I get something that is going to hold up. I also want to make sure there arent going to be problems if the stall speed doesnt turn out to be what is requested or specified for my application.

Lee, LISTEN to me...

It wasn't in ANY way taken that way either. We are discussing. I feel no way offended and/or flamed. :)
ok that outta way....

First of all I agree with you on alot of the issues.

One thing you ALL have to understand is EACH ONE OF THESE CARS IS DIFFERENT!
That is why we allow a restall at no cost except frieght. If a customer cannot understand this, then I do not want to do buisness with them because they do not understand the principals involved.
Some combos are harder than others to get all dialed in. That is just a fact of life. No matter what company or product you choose, To hit what you desire the FIRST time and the, samething everytime, is just about impossible. If they tell you they can, they are lying or guessing. If this company or person ever does surface, I want to be the first to employ them :D

Now, all 9X11's can be stalled from 1500-6500 stall. Those are my parameters. So in essence, and no shiit, it is always a crapshoot to begin with , especially with some of the combos and ideas us TB guys come up with.

Now as far as you not wanting to bring up names or instances , I feel you should have never said anything to begin with unless you were prepared to explain. I cannot address or go back to see what went wrong to be able to avoid a similiar problem or situation in the future. Remember....You ALWAYS learn more from a mistake or a problem than you ever do from success. With this in mind, If these instances didnt want to be addressed or people mentioned, than you should have NEVER said anything.
I am so approachable it isnt funny and try to service everybody individually. Tell me this?... Who else offers a "I will buy it back policy" anywhere? That is called confidence my friend and I strive to give everyone that individual service. Each and every product has a failure rate , and so does everything else in your home and life. If you considered what else in our daily life fails, we would live in a house with a cardboard box with nothing else in it.
My Oral B toothbrush came with 5 bristles missing. Throw that out and consider oral B products crap? No, things happen and as long as communication and honesty is there, and issues can be addressed , that is the biggest part of the picture.

Converters in these cars are hard to dial in sometimes. Anybody that disputes that is a liar.

This is where the most patience on both ends needs to be addressed.
I will not lie here either, there are some real "Crap products" out there. You all pretty much know who is who, however the three mentioned and discussed in here are among the better ones.
Is there 1 converter for everyone?
HELL NO!

Is there alot of money in converters?
HELL NO!
In fact they are a pain in the arse!
Big pain in the arse.

All I know if if I was gonna shell out 1000 dollars for a converter I would want them to give me a 24hr 7 day a week Nextell walkie talkie to confir with. They would be at my every beck and call.

We offer a 7 day 24hr number right on the site, and our products are alot less than a grand!

So my point is there is soooo much more to a converter purchase than the problems you mentioned. Everything you mentioned very easily could have been handled with a phone call. That is it. No issues, no crap. Ask the people who have dealt with us. Not heresay....
Are there going to be any people unhappy? Well sure, but with amount in service you have to look at the big picture.
Name one product EVER that 100% of everybody that bought was 100% perfect? Even T and A doesn't rate as there are gay men. LOLOL
Name one. :D

Eric at Dynotech just built me a tranny. Transmission shop installed it Thursday. I got the 10" protorque. Since it is early, which I'm sure will be a hard life I can't say much about it. One thing is forsure, it works better with my PTE 51. I'll no more in about 5 months.
