who is running the PT-61 turbo from precision and how do you like it? i am thinking about going with this turbo along with 55 lb/hr injectors and a PTS 9/11 converter...is it high to mid 10's capable like it says? i am also going to have ported and polished stock heads and a 206/206 cam...

idk man i see they say a 61 will do 10s but sometimes the ratings are off. id go T-63 or 63-1 with a .63 exhaut housing and say a 3200-3400 stall converter. i bet that woulg go 10s easier thru stock heads since even ported they suck.

well i am on somewhat of a budget...the PT-61 turbo is $675 compared to almost a grand for the other turbos you just mentioned...

TRUE. THERE IS THE OFFSET COST THO BY SELING YOUR EXISTING TURBO. OR YOU COULD DO A 62-1. STILL SMALL SHAFT (CHEAPER) TURBO.

Bite the bullet at go for one of the more expensive turbos. 55lb injectors ecm mod and chips will run around $600. Converter and installation will be around $1300, so when looking at everything else its a drop in the bucket. I wish I would have went with a 63,64,45 etc instead of a small shaft turbo.

well with the 57 lb/hr injectors high impedence...i won't need to modify the ecm...so the injectors will be around $360 plus i will have to send my extender chip in for a reprogram which is $25...and the 9/11 PTS converter is $800 and i am putting it myself...i don't know maybe i will go with a much bigger turbo...i'm gonna need to get a loan for all these parts!!!:D

I talked with patrick yesterday on that exact turbo. He said it would work fine with an orange stipe converter, as i am not
concerned about street manners. just spool up on the foot brake at the track. It has the gt40 turbine wheel and in a
few months will have the gt compessor too. but the price will go up some. Im probably going with this same turbo
because of price and hp rating . Put out a llittle more than the 54 and the 54 has been mid 10's. you can also get a
different compressor housing for anouther 100, but im not sure how much hp it adds

Actually the 61 is smaller than a 54. I think the 54 is more like a 62, but less than a 63.

No, a TE61 uses the same wheels at a PTE54, a 60-1 compressor wheel and a 69 trim turbine. The TE62 uses the 60-1 compressor with a P trim (76 trim) turbine so it's a step bigger than the 54/61. You can also go with the new GT67 compressor wheel and your choice of turbines, in a small shaft format, but again, that's back up close to $1000.

Exactly are Carl says above. The only thing he didn't mention is that the new "PT61" (not the old TE61) is basically equivalent to a TE62, as it uses the same 76 P trim turbine and the new 61mm GT compressor wheel. Basically it is a TE62 with a more efficient compressor wheel. It should not have any problems going high 10's with ported heads and a cam.

Clayton, PTE will build a PT61 turbo with your choice of turbines, GT350 (forget the trim but the same as a PTE52) or 69 trim (TE61/PTE54) or 76 P trim (TE62), depending on your feelings about spoolup vs. max power, so I really don't think you can simply say a PT61 is closest to a TE62 because it may not be. Just think of the PT61 version with each different turbine as a step up from the old style models that used the same turbine.

Be careful how big you go on the turbo, since you'll eventually reach the limit of a single 340/hotwired walbro pump, regardless of how big your injectors are. Based on your goals, I would go with a te-45a or GT67, and upgrade to the double pumper set up. If that seems a little out of your budget, save a little longer, and you won't have to spend more later, when you want to go faster.

Also, don't forget about suspension..you can have all the power in the world, but without suspension, it will go up in smoke..

i have already decided to go with a double pumper...so i am not worried about fuel...as far as suspension i already have a 10 second suspension setup minus the shocks...i have an ATR rear sway bar, hrpartsnstuff lcas, air bags, 28 spline moser axles, 3" aluminum driveshaft with spicer ujoints...

think i may be looking at a TE-45a, TA-64 or a PT-66 turbo...runnin with the big boys;)

Exactly. On their site though, they call it a PT61 and describe it as having the 76 P trim turbine. They did mention that you can get it with the others as well, just depends what you are looking for. They said they could upgrade my 52 with the new 61mm compressor wheel for about $300. I had already sold it though so that's not really an option for me now ;)

Guess I've been out of the loop for a while. The pt turbos must be new cuz the old TA & TE 61's were only good for around 600 - 610 hp and flowed about 900 cfm's whereas the 54 was good for about 620 hp and the 62 was good for about 630 hp.

Comes with T04E Compressor Cover - 3" Inlet and 2" Outlet.
For mid 10 second applications, 3200 minimum stall required.

These turbo's require a specific wastegate actuator for true bolt-on compatability, sold seperately.

Supports up to 675 hp at the flywheel

I have this turbo like it very much have went 11.58 at 118 mph
i will try some new numbers this weekend I believe this turbo will go well into to the11.00s just my o2.

sorry i havent updated my sig

Southern how much boost were you running and did you do the cam or heads?

This was at 25 psi with a 3psi launch in july I have change pumps since then and had to tune the car back down to the numbers , also runnin a buddy's stock loc. intercooler ,so i am goin to try for my best today .

p.s. stock cam and heads, just change valve springs

I went to the track sat. 11-29-03 the car run good new times with my pt-61 at 25psi GREAT AIR this weekend ,so this did help

My results were has followed :

1/8 :7.190

1/8 mph: 91.754

1/4 : 11.50

1/4 mph : 112.69

my 1/4 mph is kind of low any ideas has i think this could really put the car down in numbers ,but no fussin hear lovin the cars results.

p.s. this was at about a 4-5 psi launch fresh brakes on the way try a 5-10 launch next weekend.

How are your valve springs? High mileage ones held my old GN back quite a bit till I replaced them.

<edit> Oops... just read your other post about new valve springs... sorry!

May I ask what stall your converter is? Thanks,
