Wastegate puck is leaking IMHO.

Nice times.

Thanks man,

Sweet!!!!

so I will fix the puck and run 28 psi....

hopefully I can get mid nines at about 145mph out of the PT54!

who woulda thunk that this turbo could make 800rwhp

(this is sarcasm for those who can't tell)

:sigh:

Grandnat, I think you have it diagnosed correctly. I have to admit I didn't think what the 127 mph meant when I first responded to your question - I just focused on the 20 psi boost. When the 54 first came out, Harry H. told me it was good for high 10's, and that he already had one customer running 10.6's (weight unspecified). Your 127 roughly equals 10.67 so flow/hp-wise I think you are done. Even if there's a little left, it's time to step up anyway :-). Please let us know when you do, and what boost/performance the new turbo gives you.

Finally an intelligent post!!

thanks for taking the time to actually read my post Carl.

BTW I ran 102.3 in the 1/8th friday and judging by the fact that I gain 26.5 mph going from the 1/8th to the 1/4 that puts me closer to 130mph.

oh, and I will definatley keep you posted on my turbo decision and results.

Thanks!

Save your breath bro, I read your stuff already. I had a GN with Champion heads, blah, blah, blah. Even with a tiny 44 or a 49 turbo, 28psi is no problem. You have a problem with your car, or turbo control system. Have fun!

If I have such a problem, then why am I in the 10s and your stuck in the 11s???

let's see... mid 10s on 20 psi or low 11s on 30psi+..... hmmmm let me think.

My latest GN, I have only had for four months. It has about 13,000 miles on it. I am a little shy about ripping apart the motor. I am very proud of 11.1 with just a turbo, and fuel, and PTE front.

Hey That is impressive, I just do not know why you have to be a such a d1ck, especially when you obviously didn't read/comprehend my previous posts.

I suppose I will just save my breath... Bro.

Well, I'm sorry to have been a D!ck. But most people who read this will have a hard time believing 20-21 is all you got. See the other peoples posts. Even if your turbo is "maxed out", it still should be able to blow more boost than 20psi, even if it is just heated air. I, and others, think you have an exaust leak, poorly matched wastegate puck, leaking manifold, or a bad reading boost guage, or something. If you want to run faster, buying a bigger turbo is a no brainer! I'm doing it now as we speek. 127mph is pretty rocking for a PT54/TE-61 (same thing). Regardless of what boost you are running, I'd say thats the end of that turbo. So in your very first post, why did you stress the boost, then say it does not matter later? You should of just left that part out if it does not matter.

I'd like to see you run some 9s with a BIG turbo.:D

Just some thoughts...

If you're sure that you don't have any exhaust leaks, there are a couple of things left to check. You mentioned that you're running stock headers, so double and TRIPLE-check your header alignment on the heads. With the stockers, it's very easy to have one side or the other cocked slightly, which could cover up the exhaust ports enough to cause your problem.

Also, do yourself a favor: Remove the downpipe bolts and pull the downpipe away from your turbo enough to inspect your turbine wheel. I've seen wheels that were chewed up cause your exact problem. Just a little piece of dirt (or, in the case of older Champion heads, valve guide metal) could take out parts of the wheel.

Good luck.

Look at the name of this thread..... then you will realize why I mentioned the boost.

I wanted to know what this turbo could do and why I couldn't get over 21 psi......and IF in fact I have run out of turbo.
NOW I know that I have in fact ran out of turbo and that is all the air it will push in this motor.

by the way did you read the part where I said that I have THREE independant boost refferences?
My F.A.S.T. datalogger.... my boost gauge and my fuel pressure gauge all have their own vaccum line and all read the same. You still think it is a bad boost gauge???

I did another test tonight. I DISCONNECTED THE WASTEGATE!!!!

and in second gear I eventually built 10psi...

this is with the wastegate WIDE OPEN....

do you guys still think I have an exhaust leak?!!?!?

I think boost matters, I just realize that it is relative.. I can use it as a comparison point between two very similar combinations. other than that.... doesn't mean much to me and it shouldn't you either..
