Well it did take a bit of force to open it by hand. It is a metal one that has been there since i got the car in 2000. Maybe it needs replacement. I will make sure there is vacuum present. Thanks for the help.

For a few years, I would have to manually "help" that metal arm at the beginning of every winter, until I eventually had to "help" it every time I wanted heat. I finally replaced it with a cheapie from Advance.

I found a vacuum hose off, but i swore it was on yesterday, but the valve works fine now. But i still have weird problems. Now the air comes out hot with the vent on and cold selected. Now if i move the selector to hot it blows out the intake area in the engine compartment and very little blows out the vent. What thee heck? Im confused. Is my vacuum selector doo hickey going out? It sounds like it leaks when i make adjustments.

You really need to get a copy of the shop manual where it has all of the vacum lines and diagnostic procedure.

It sounds llike the blend air door isn't functioning (that's a linkage not vacum)

The blend door looks like its working. You can see it if you drop the glove compartment door. I replaced the vacuum controls and no luck. Everything works correctly with the temp at cold, but if you move it to hot it blows out the intake under the hood, not hot anymore either. I changed the thermostat cause i thought it was sticking and to clear any possible air out that i didnt get out when i put the motor in.
