i am curious if anyone knows if a open cone air filter under the hood, with some hose running up under it coming from the airdam (sorry if you dont know what im trying to describe)to supply air to it, is as good or better than having the filter behind the air dam, it seems to me that it would work just as good if not better, just that i would ask some "proffesional" opinions, thanks for any info.

I've never seen any test results, but it seems to me that there will be slightly higher pressure behind the headlight than behind the air dam. Maybe half a psi? So you will get cool air from behind the headlight, or from behind the air dam at lower pressure, or warm air from in the engine compartment. My choice would be from behind the headlight, but my car still has a cone filter in the stock location. Someone suggested building a box around it, so it will only get air from the front, but I haven't tried that, or seen one to copy. I had plans to run a "pressure test", but the weather turned bad, and then I forgot about it. I want to run a length of hose into the car, hook it up to a pressure/vac gage, and go drive on the interstate. I'll run at 60mph, with the hose routed to one location, then rerout the hose, and try it again. See if there is a measurable diff. Maybe after the snow melts.....

I installed a home brew cold air system just last night. Used some induction parts from an Alero and tucked a 9" K&N tilted down behind the headlight. The piping worked out perfectly and no body cutting was needed. The flow path for air is fairly smooth.
