Question About Oil Filter

Newbie questions here:

1. In the attached picture, can someone please explain what the yellow thing is near the oil filter and what it's purpose is?

2. The oil filter looks bigger than a normal GN filter, is it beneficial to use a bigger filter and why?

as far as the ol filter goes- filters from the s-10 with the 4.3 use a longer filter that fits the 3.8. it is always better to use a bigger filter, it filters better plus you can hold more oil.

the plate is from kenne bell
its for boosting oil pressure.
had one before rebuild and it semms to keep idle oil pressure up
especially at idle

The filter looks like an AC PF52. Replaces the smaller stock filter. The gold plate is a Kenne Bell oil booster plate. It redirects the oil to increase idle oil pressure.
