I just bought a T49 turbo and was wondering if i should do any other mods to make everything run better and whatnot.. My car is almost stock besides the T49.

You'll need a good fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and bigger injectors if you want to be safe.

Upgrade your fuel system and Injectors. 22-24psi is the sweet spot for that turbo. Im just waiting on injectors:(

Don't forget the chip....if you haven't done one already.

Lose the stock airbox as well and do a cold air kit for better breathing.

Might want to look into getting a higher stall say 2600 - 2800rpm.
The stock D5 is suffecient but the higher stall is much better. Look at the 9/11 from PTS.

Downpipe

Make plans for a 3" DP...the stocker is restrictive even with the stock turbo! You'll feel & hear this mod!

HTH :)

Dump the stock IC. It just plain sucks. I added 3 pounds of boost by yanking that thing out and going with a BGC 23 row hog leg.

Think flow.

And later:
IC
DP
Injectors
TC
SMC kit
Scantool

Just the basics.

Thanks alot for the suggestions, the first thing ill do will probly be a full exhaust system, im thinking hooker exhaust, or is there a better company out there for a good price because im on a very restricted budget.

I just finished researching this topic thoroughly last week before ordering my exhaust. The ATR is a slightly better exhaust (read flows a bit better), but not to a degree that justifies its expense. Stainless is nice though if you will be driving the car year round in bad weather. Otherwise the concensus is that the Hooker system is by far the best bang for the buck. Money wasn't really an issure for me, but why spend more than you have to. I went witht the Hooker system myself. Just do a search on Hooker if you want to find out more. Also, as the others mentioned, pay very close attention to the fuel system. ;) Good luck.

With a TA49 you can stay conservative with mods. After a fuel pump, upgrade injectors to atleast 36# and increase the intake and exhaust flow. A big neck on the intercooler will help as will suspension, rear brake and tire upgrades. The stock D5 converter will work fine with a TA49 and mid 1.6 60 fts on drag radials are possible with a 7 to 10 psi launch. Without going into the motor and keeping the max boost below 25 psi, 11.5's @ 116+ are possible with tuning and a good launch.

how much boost should i run at if i havent upgraded anything else, if i just have the t49? im really low on money right now, but the first thing ill do is a fuel pump, since mine is weak.

The amount of octane you run will determine your boost level. The amount of boost you can run on a given octane varies from one car to another, and of course is also related to the state of tune your car is in. I run a TA49 turbo at 18 psi on a mix of 91 octane and xylene which gives me an effective octane of somewhere around 98. I've heard stories of others running 18 psi on super unleaded alone. Maybe these guys are better tuners than I am, or maybe they have better gas than the 91 sludge we have here in CA. Basically it just depends on your individual car and how familiar you are with getting the most out of your combination. Good luck.

I'm running 20# on my TA-49 with 30 pound Green Stripes, 93 pump gas and an SMC kit. I plan on turning it up a bit, but want to wait till my 50's arrive in the mail. BTW...0 knock

I don't have track times yet, but the new 49 feels great vs. the stocker I just sold. And if UNGN says to keep it under 25#, then that's where I'm heading (after I get my new squirters) :D
