I bought a PTS Extreme street/strip trans and 9/11 L/U converter in march 2004. It is still sitting in the shipping carton. Between getting the car's body work done and doing mechanicals I was just now getting ready to put it in.

It looks like I am going to have to pull my engine now. It may be quite a while before things are ready for my new trans.

Do you recommend that I sell my trans now or can it sit with out degrading (seals ETC) for a long period of time.

Thanks,

Rich

Rich, all seals and surfaces are coated with trans assembly fluid, clutches soaked in trans fluid and are very protected. I have know people have a trans sit for 3 years prior to putting in a trans and had no issues what so ever. Make sure the converter is sealed and keep them covered and out of a dusty enviroment. Other than that, I really don't see any problems with waiting for the installation.
Any questions, please feel free to call us.

thanks, Mark

Mark,
Thanks for the super quick reply. At least that is one less thing to worry about right now.

another suggestion...

I'm no trans. expert by any means, but I've heard of the clutches drying out where they are not submerged in the fluid if the transmission sits for really extended periods.

with that in mind, would it maybe make sense to periodically rotate the input shaft to re-coat/soak the clutches all the way around??

We soak all our clutches prior to building them. Once they are soaked, the fluid will remain in them for the most part. You shouldn't have a concern about the fluid draining out of them from our experience.
