........... Also what is the life span of the Mobil 1 sitting in an engine and started every once in a while---should he change it out after 6 months even if the mileage never gets close to 3k?

A characteristic about synthetic oils that is seldom ever mentioned is that after a few days they have drained off the cylinder walls and bearings.:(

So if the vehicle sits for a week or more, it is more susceptible to a "dry start" than conventional oils. So logic would be that for a low mileage car, like my 9K mile one, use regular oil as the long-life protection of a synthetic is of no benefit and could be detrimental.

Of course using an EP additive would probably negate the drain-down problem, but still be a waste of $$$ over regular oil doing the same job.:smile:

So you are saying that it is better to run conventional oil with an oil stabilizer or just plain oil?

Good point, but I pretty sure that all synthetics don't have this problem. If you want to use nickel-nintey five Mobil-1 you get what you pay for. :cool:
