My turbolink scan tool is telling me that my car is in p/n and 4th at the same time. If I give it some gas in park the 3rd gear light comes on and goes off also. Very hit and miss, sometimes on sometimes not.

So in park its saying that its in park/neutral and 4th.

Still in park give it some gas it says its in park/neutral 3rd off and on and 4th

Shift it out of park into drive it still says its in park/neutral and 4th

Where is this swith at? Inside the transmission? The only sensor hook up on the trans I see is the four prong swith.

Any Ideas on how to fix this problem.

The P/N switch is mounted on top of the steering column near the bottom. The 3rd and 4th gear switches are in the transmission screwed into the valve body. The 4th gear switch points downward, the 3rd gear switch points towards the rear of the trans.

How do the 3rd and 4th gear switchs work.

How Are they activated?

How are they adjusted?

The 3rd and 4th gear switches are normally closed pressure switches that open when the transmission shifts into the corresponding gear. They are not adjustable. If your scan tool is always showing in 3rd or 4th either you have a wiring problem (open wire) or the switch is bad.

Any ideas on how to check for an open wire?

I would asume that that I could go from the four prong plug on the trans and check a pin in the computer harness where it hooks into the computer.

Need to know what pin or pins to check and what wires they go with on the four prong plug on the trans so I can check for a open wire.
