Hey guys i have a 87 GN and want to try the stage II coils and control module. so my question is just from eye balling it, it looks like they are gonna mount totally different. do i have to make a special plate of some sort to fasten this module to? and if so do i need to put that dielectric grease between the module and any metal like the old school distributer mounted ones? also will the wire connector just plug right in? after mounting, plugging it up, and putting on plug wires is that it???

I assume you mean Type II. There is an adapter plate available from GM. Other than that it's a plug and play. :)

Everything plugs right in if you get the right module and adapter plate. Mine came from a 89' Olds Cutlass, I also found a 99 Pontiac GTP and swapped the coils onto mine. There supposed to have a hotter spark - either way it works good, and better than my type I coil setup.

And once you've done the type-II swap, the methanol coils (if you can find them) are supposed to have more spark.

That's whAt I have are the methonal coils. So where do I get this plate? Thank you all for your help.

Only problem I ran across: The plug wires from Red were too short & I had to replace them.

If you don't want to buy a new plate I think the early 90's 3800 motors with the type II ignition mounted on the front right corner of the motor use that plate.

Not new..

those wires were not the correct length 10 yrs ago.. Call Russ Merrit, and get a set that'll fit, and look good too.

did you have an aftermarket tac? if so did it work after the gen 2 coil swap?
