Awhile back i bought a used turbo from the board and it seemed fine when it arrived. But recently I thought about putting it on my car and I notice it has a some end play. I mean you can push and pull on the turbine bolt and it slides back and forth a little. Here is what has me worried, it sounds like and appears that the compressor wheel has scrapped the housing a few times. After further inspection, I noticed that it is only scrapping the houseing if you push on the turbine wheel nut and the compressor wheel is moved forward the amount of the end play. Conversly, if all the end play is on the turbine side, there is no scrapping.

I am pretty sure this means I have to replace/rebuild the center section, but am hopeing i'm wrong.

BTW
It's a spare stock turbo that has been ported.

TIA:D

Frankg.....

Do you know where I can get a rebuild kit for my turbo?
Do you sell them? Or would it just be better to get a replacement center section?

Also,
I see that you rebuild these engines, Do you recommend hyper. pistons in a stock engine that will see no more than 20 psi?? My engine builder out here in CA couldn't get a set of stock pistons and is going with hypers. Just kinda looking for another professional opinion.

Thanks for the response

turbo info.

Check out gnttype.org technical articles, go to turbocharger, then
scroll down to procedures and click on Rebuild your turbocharger.
It's a pretty detailed rebuild procedure with some sources for
parts too. That's were I'm going when it's time to rebuild;)
