I have used this gate successfully with an AMS500 and 2 solenoids when I had my 66 turbo.
Now I am running the 71, and am not having any luck controlling the boost.
I have tried different configurations with the 2 solenoids and the ISAC controller, but no luck.
Tonight I put in a 10psi spring and removed the hoses from the wastegate. Boost would rise quickly to over 20psi. I just removed and inspected the wastegate and everything moved freely, no tears in the diaphram.
Anyone have any ideas?
I am thinking that,
A - the valve is binding once it gets hot
B - there is very little backpressure (?)
 
Do you have pics of the exhaust, turbo and w/g placement?
We have seen some very bad placements cause issues.'
Also what is the sizes of all the pipes from the turbo and w/g down?
 
Placement is fine, Big Wood Racing did the downpipe/header work. A 2" pipe is welded onto the passenger side header pre-turbo and is vented back into the 3.5" downpipe at the end of the first curve.
This setup worked fine with my 66 S-trim.

Placement looks good. With a big spike I would have to guess that the w/g is sticking.

Have you tried lower springs.
Does it ramp it? Or just goes straight to 20?
 
I tried another Turbosmart 50 with a 7psi spring in it, no hoses attached. 20+ psi boost.
Tried 17psi worth of springs with the turbo attached to the bottom of the gate, 12psi boost.
Last year with my 66 turbo my minimum boost with a 17psi spring was 24psi. Wtf?
 
The wastegate is vented to atmosphere. I don't see how a 3.5" downpipe could be a restriction, not at this power level.
 
Well in case anyone searches this in the future, I did have some luck. I swapped to a different 50 gate, same thing. I experimented with different hose configurations, and finally found the right one. (7psi spring in the gate)
Hoses went like this: Turbo to the bottom of wastegate. In that line there are 2 T's, each one going to a solenoid. One solenoid is vented to atmosphere, the other is vented to the top of the wastegate.
I now have control of the boost with the in car ISAC trim knob ranging from 6psi to 16psi on the fly.

good deal i run the ams 500 and i had my map hose routed a little to closeto my downpipe. once that little hose melts then you go big on boost lol. glad ya got it sorted out
